Draft General Disposal Authority for Government Records
In October-November 2012, the State Records Office surveyedits stakeholdersas part of a review of the General Disposal Authority for Administrative Records. Information from this survey was used to draft a new General Disposal Authority for Government Records (GDAGR).
The draft GDAGR amalgamates and updates the existing General Disposal Authorities for:
- Administrative Records (RD 2003016)
- Human Resource Management Records (RD 2012004)
- Financial and Accounting Records (RD 2005010)
The General Disposal Authority for Administrative Records has been extensively revised as part of this process. Only minor revisions have been made to the other General Disposal Authorities.
The draft GDAGR was reviewed by a GDAGR Working Group, consisting of representatives from State government agencies, in May 2013. The draft GDAGR was updated accordingly as a result of comments from the Working Group.
The State Records Office is now seeking feedback from its stakeholders, particularly records/information officers within the WA State government, on the exposure draft of the GDAGR.
The exposure draft of the GDAGR is availableon the State Records Office website at:
A Linking Table, which cross references from the existing General Disposal Authorities to the draft GDAGR, is also available on the SRO website at:
Draft SRO Guideline: Records Retention and Disposal Instructions
To aid streamlining and improving our processes, the State Records Office is also proposing a new Guideline which incorporates generic information contained in the introductions to disposal authorities (Retention and Disposal Schedules, General Disposal Authorities, etc.). This Guideline is titled the Records Retention and Disposal Instruction. Should this Guideline proceed, it is envisaged that the information within the Guideline need no longer be included in the introductions to disposal authorities. It is envisaged that introductions for disposal authorities would be more succinct, focussing on the specific context in which each disposal authority will apply.
The State Records Office is also seeking feedback from records and information officers within State government on the proposed Guideline.
The exposure draft of the SRO Guideline: Records Retention and Disposal Instructionsis available on the State Records Office website at:
