EXECUTIVE HEADTEACHER – THE OXFORD MULTI ACADEMY TRUST

A rare opportunity to establish and lead a new Multi Academy Trust in Oxford, comprising Orchard Meadow Primary School, Pegasus Primary School and Windale Community Primary School.

The successful candidatewill have an outstanding record of leadership and management in a challenging educational environment.

JOB PURPOSE

To deliver and sustain educational excellence across the 3 schools of the Academy Trust.

JOB ROLE

The role will be to:

  • Challenge educational under-achievement and inspire children to reach their full potential;
  • Establish the Academy Trust as a centre of educational excellence and success, developing partnerships with sponsors, pupils, parents, the local community and other key stakeholders;
  • Lead and motivate the staff of all 3 schools, particularly the senior leadership teams, setting clear and aspirational goals;
  • Manage the organisational and educational change necessary to achieve and sustain success;
  • Develop the learning environment and facilities of each school;
  • Ensure the efficient and effective management of all resources.

In fulfilling this role, the Executive Headteacher will be responsible to and attend all meetings of the Academy Trust Board of Trustees. The Academy’s lead sponsor will be the Dragon School, and Family Links and the Hamilton Trust are co-sponsors.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In each of the following areas, the Executive Headteacher will:

Strategic Development:

  • Work closely with the Academy Board of Trustees and the schools’ advisory boards to develop and communicate a clear strategic vision for the successful development of the Academy.
  • Establish policies and plans to deliver the strategy.
  • Implement and maintain school improvement plans and self-evaluation procedures.
  • Develop a clear and progressive staffing strategy.
  • Motivate staff to achieve the targets set.
  • Instil a culture of common accountability in all staff for pupil performance and attainment.
  • Ensure all statutory requirements are met.

Teaching and Learning:

•Advocate and develop innovative ways of teaching and learning to meet the needs of pupils of all abilities through the continuing development of a broad, balanced and stimulating curriculum.

•Provide a sound foundation for pupils’ learning andmonitor progress carefully.

•Ensure a wide range of activities for pupils to give them confidence in their ability to take on new challenges, raise aspirations and increase self-belief.

•Encourage the creative use of ICT to support teaching and learning.

•Provide a safe and healthy environment in which pupils’ happiness and welfare can be nurtured.

•Foster a lively and welcoming ambience in which high standards of behaviour encourage learning and social development.

•Report three times each year on the Academy’s educational performance to the Academy Board of Trustees.

Leading and Managing Staff:

•Lead and manage the Heads of Teaching and Learning in each school;

•Support the Heads of Teaching and Learning in their leadership of staff in the achievement of the highest professional standards.

•Engage all staff in the process of meeting those standards, encouraging ownership and involvement.

•Ensure and enhance effective working relationships across all 3 schools.

•Demand the sharing of best practice.

•Encourage continuous professional development, monitoring the induction and professional development of all staff through regular appraisal.

•Lead the recruitment and appointment of all new staff.

Communication and Partnership:

  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships with parents and carers, pupils, trustees, the local community and other key local stakeholders.
  • Make maximum use of Sponsors and their resources.
  • Ensure that positive, helpful communication is maintained with parents at all time through newsletters, annual reports, parents’ evenings, and other informal opportunities.

Resource Management:

•Advise the Academy Board on the formulation of the annual budget.

•Plan and manage all educational activity within budget.

•Monitor the agreed budget regularly and ensure effective use of all resources.

•Manage the learning environment and all facilities to ensure the needs of the curriculum and health & safety requirements are met.

•Report three times each year to the Academy Board of Trustees.

Safeguarding:

The Oxford Multi Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young persons at all times. The Executive Headteacher will be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of all children for whom he/she is responsible, or with whom he/she comes into contact, in accordance with the Trust’s Safeguarding policy. The successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau.

Health and Safety:

The Executive Headteacher will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the Trust’s Health and Safety policies under the Health and Safety at work Act (1974). He/she will ensure the safety of all parties,including members of the public, in premises or sites controlled by the Trust by ensuring compliance of procedures are observed at all times under the provision of safe systems of work through a safe and healthy environment and including such information, training instructions and supervision as necessary to accomplish those goals.

Salary and Benefits:

It is intended that the salary for the post will be commensurate with the responsibility of the postand reflect the national guidelines on teachers’ pay and conditions. Accordingly, the salary is likely to be in Group 6.
