What the children learnt this week:

Class 1 – This week, in the Class 1, we have started the children's chosen topic of Transport. We have had lots of discussions about travelling by land and the types of vehicles that are used. We have also started to look at our focus text which is about a bus that gets up to all sorts of mischief. The children have thought of actions to help us to retell the story and had lots of fun doing this. In Maths, this week, our Reception children have been looking at addition, adding practically and they have also started to read number sentences. In Nursery the children have been practising their counting skills up to 10. A great week in Class 1. Well done everyone!

Class 2 – This week, Class 2 have been very excited to start practising the Christmas play. In maths, we have been learning about multiplication and place value. Our English topic has come to an end and the children have independently written their own stories about a crayon going on a journey. We have started to look at our family trees and the different people that are in our family. We thoroughly enjoyed dressing up for Children in Need and completing the different activities that took place. What a busy week!

Class 3 – This week, Class 3 have been extremely busy! In maths, we have been looking at equivalent fractions. In Guided reading, we have finished the book, 'House of Shadows.' The children are pleased they now have the answers to all the mysteries that have been taking place in the story. In RE, we have been learning about why the story of Rama and Sita is significant to Diwali (the festival of light) and even made our own diva lamps. Well done Class 3!

Class 4 – This week, Class 4 have been using the grid method and short multiplication method in maths to help us multiply. In English, we have started to look at a new story called ‘A Winter's Child’. During Science, we helped out Ernie the electrician in his investigation in to conductors and insulators and in PSHE, we explored Cyber Bullying and the importance of being kind and safe online.

Class 5 – This week, in Class 5, we have been learning about percentages and fractions in Maths. In our English lessons this week, we have been reading World War II diaries and writing diary entries of our own. In Science, we have continued to research space exploration and designed a bed for an astronaut in space. During D.T, we have been having a go at knitting which we've thoroughly enjoyed. In our RE lessons, we have been finding evidence from passages in the Old Testament which confirm that Jesus was the Messiah. We have also created our own Christmas stained glass windows. We had a great time fundraising for Children in Need!

PTA Information

The last PTA meeting took place on Wednesday 15th November; the minutes for this meeting will be uploaded to the website, and the link sent out in the Facebook group page. If you haven’t joined our group, please have a look and send a friend request with the name of your child - Richard Crosse PTA. Our next meeting will be on Friday 8th December, 8.30am at Richard Crosse. Our Christmas Fayre is coming up on the 1st December, between 2.30pm and 4.30pm. We've got some fab stalls including local businesses showcasing their beautiful hand made cards, hand made candles, home fragrances, knitted gifts, items from Monsoon and Accessorize, as well as the lovely items made by all the children, and games run by Year 6. We've persuaded Santa to make an appearance, you can book a time slot at the office, book early to avoid disappointment! There will also be a refreshment stall, and festive facepainting. The school choir will be singing from 2.30pm, and as a special treat this year, there will be items from Magical Stories of Lichfield available for your children to buy a present for those special adults in their lives (all Magical Stories items will be £5 or less). Come prepared to finish all your Christmas shopping!

We are urgently looking for volunteers to help us wrap items, please let us know if you can help out - you can do it from the comfort of your own home, but it would really help Santa out, the elves are all really busy at this time of year. Grab Marcella, Martin or Jacqui at the school gate, or let the office know and they will pass your details on to us.

59 Club

If you haven't heard of our 59 Club, then please do think about joining. For a nominal fee per week, payable weekly or annually, you can pick a number of your choosing (1-59). If your number is drawn as the bonus ball in the National Lottery Saturday Night Lotto, you could be a winner! There will be opportunities to join at the Christmas Fayre, and Christmas shows, or you can contact Marcella. For those who joined last year, this will be your opportunity to re-join for January 18. The winning number this week was 54; there is no winner so this will be a third roll over!
