Your Teacher, Mrs. Sheri Garber
I was born in McAllen, Texas and moved to the Houston area when I was 4 years old. I grew up all over Houston and its surrounding area. I started my college education at BaylorUniversity, where I attended for 2 years. To lessen the financial burden I transferred to The University of Texas at Arlington, where I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in English, class of 2000. After graduation, I worked as a Cognitive Therapist with the brain injured population. A couple years later I decided to continue my education and attended The University of Houston-Clear Lake and received a Master of Arts degree in General Psychology, with an emphasis in Child Development. Along the way, I worked with my mentor professor doing research related to racial awareness in young children. This is when I discovered my passion for working with children!! I graduated in 2005 and went on to conduct research at The University of Texas Health Science Center with children with Autism and children with ADHD. I realized quickly that I could make the biggest difference in children’s lives by becoming a teacher, like my grandmother. I received my certification in teaching a year later. I began my career right here at Eagle Springs Elementary!! I taught 5th grade for 1 year, 2nd grade for 3 years, and this is my 3rdyear in Kindergarten!!
I am married to my wonderful husband, Adam and we have a beautiful 4 year old daughter named Kaitlyn. Family is very important to me and I try to spend as much quality time with my daughter as I can. She is growing so quickly and learning new things everyday, as I’m sure your child did too!! She is the light of my life and has been the greatest blessing in my life! In my spare time I love to read! I also enjoy photography, making hair bows and decorative flip flops. I am also trying to start scrapbooking.
I love to teach children. My personal goal is to get to know every child in my classroom as an individual. I love to hear about their life and I believe in letting the children know who I am as well. Through your child, you may hear a lot about my daughter throughout the school year!! I believe in building relationships. I want each child to walk away from Kindergarten feeling successful and secure in school.
In my classroom, I promote an atmosphere of safety, trust, and respect. I work hard to build a sense of community among my students, and I emphasize the idea of teamwork. I value cooperation and collaboration both in my classroom and as I work with my peers. I believe that great things can happen when we work together! I am looking forward to teaching and caring for your new Eagle!!
