Hardin County, Illinois

Hardin County is one of 102 counties in the State of Illinois.This countyis seatedin the City ofElizabethtown. In 2000, the total population ofHardin Countywas 4,800, with a median ageof 42.1. According to U.S.Census 2000, 99.3% of its population was reported as only one race, including 95.4% of these self-reported as White and 2.8% self-reported as African Americans.In 2006, the Per Capita Personal Income (PCPI) of Hardin Countywas$21,617, ranked 98th in the state. This PCPI was 56% of the state average, $38,409, and 59% of the national average, $36,714. Average household size and average family size were 2.30 persons and 2.81 persons respectively in 2000.

Hardin County is located in southernmost Illinois,approximately170 milessoutheast of St.Louis, Missouri and 371 miles south of Chicago, Illinois. The county has a total area of 181.53 square miles, of which 178.33 square miles are land and 3.20 square miles are water.

The village and cityin Hardin County include Cave-In-Rock, Elizabethtown, and Rosiclare.
