REVIEWS OF MY TOURS

“The best way to see the Vatican”

Reviewed August 9, 2012

Our tour guide Vincenzo Macchiarola gave us a very informative and interesting tour of the Vatican. His patience and help throughout the tour was excellent. He pointed out so many details that we would have missed if we had just toured it on our own. The Vatican was very crowded, but we were able to manuever around without much difficulty.
Vincenzo was also able to book us a tour of the Colosseum and Forum (he was our excellent guide for this tour as well) and arranged a driving tour with guide for us around Rome. He was very professional and our trip to Rome was enriched by his expertise.

“Steger Family Tour of Rome”

Reviewed August 6, 2012

Vincenzo was outstanding. This was the very best part of our tour and my whole family agreed. Vincenzo was patient, knowledgable, and answered all of our questions. The Sistine Chapel was the most moving experience and the story he told gave me chills. I mean I have heard it all before in books, but being there and hearing him tell the story of the paintings, relationships, battle of good and evil made us feel like we had stepped back into time. I would recommend this tour and request Stefano and Vincenzo!!

Awesome 2 days with Vincenzo Macchiarola!”

We toured the Ancient Rome and Coliseum, Catacombs, and Vatican with Vincenzo.and our 3 teenagers. Vincenzo hit a perfect tone with pithy history and contemporary references to keep our brood engaged and having fun. He did an excellent job laying out options and making recommendations about best use of time. He also worked with our driver, Fabio, to maximize the use of the van. Both guys were very accommodating and had great senses of humor which goes a long way for a family trip. Vincenzo's narrative was well informed and we never lost interest. And unlike some of our other tour guides, we never had any trouble hearing him--he is great at walking backwards on uneven surfaces:) Thanks Vincenzo and Fabio!

Rome is a very large city with many attractions, and to see it all in one day is impossible. But Vincenzo was very knowledgable, friendly, and very flexible. I had a great time with Vincenzo as my tour guide.

Vincenzo is passionate about the history of Rome and his passion was infectious. I would wholeheartedly recommend Vincenzo as a guide Rome.

“Great tour ”

Reviewed December 14, 2013

We did the Colosseum and the Vatican tour on separate days, 2 adults and 1 teenager. Tour was very informative, Vincenzo captures your imagination and puts you back to history. Correspondence thru emails was fast, and he can suggest ways to bypass the lines etc. If we had more time we would have hired him to tour us to other places.

“Excellent, Informative Tour”

The private tour of the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's that my friend and I took was amazing. Thanks to our guide, Vincenzo and his assistant, Erika, we were able to see, appreciate and enjoy our tour of these marvelous sites in Rome. We were on a very tight time schedule making the tour a challenge to plan. Vincenzo did some magic and arranged a schedule that met all of our expectations and ensured we made our train to Bologna in mid-afternoon. Our tour time was later than we wished...because we delayed in locking in our tour. To make sure we missed nothing and yet took the full tour, Vincenzo and Erika met us at a coffee shop 1/2 hour before our tour time. Vincenzo then gave us a very complete tour of the Sistine Chapel on an iPad explaining the artwork and history as he went through the photos and graphics. This was extremely helpful as no one, including guides, is allowed to speak in the Sistine Chapel. Vincenzo is very knowledgeable about history in general and art history specifically. So, the time spent before our official tour was invaluable. The tour itself was equally wonderful as Vincenzo with Erika's help led us through the various areas, explaining all that we saw. We highly recommend Rome Guides and Vincenzo and Erika.

“Very knowledgeable of Rome ”

Reviewed December 7, 2013

I was visiting Italy for few first time and I was on my own. Typically I enjoy exploring by myself but for as city of Rome's stature, I thought a guide would be worthwhile. I spent 1/2 day with Vincenzo exploring the colosseum and forum, and the next day I spent an afternoon with him and Erica (Vatican guide) on the Vatican. I also spent another 1.5 days on my own which was a good mix. Vincenzo is very nice and very knowledgable about the history, art, and culture of Rome and the Vatican. I really think it brought out a lot of little details and subtlety that will stay with me. What a great city. Vincenzo is very easy to contact by email and he will tailor his services to your needs.

“1 day tour of Rome”

Reviewed November 28, 2013

We were on a girls trip to Italy with only 1 day to spend in Rome
We contacted Vincenzo and gave him our rather intense list of demands including a tour of the Vatican, a tour of the Coliseum and a tour of the Forum
Vincenzo met us at the train and we started our whirlwind tour.
We saw all of the sites we wanted to see, Vincenzo provided us with SO much information about all of the sites, and he got us back to the train station with plenty of time to spare.
He even arranged a quick and delicous lunch for us between our stops.
He was a fantastic guide and I would definitely contact him for another tour if I return to Rome.
Thanks Vincenzo!!!

“Brilliant evening tour”

We had an amazing Rome by night personal tour with Vincenzo as part of our honeymoon.
It was a wonderful experience, with Vincenzo speaking beautifully for nearly three hours.
He covered everything in great depth from ancient history to modern Rome, arts, architecture and even ended the tour with a short movie projected on the floor outside the Colosseum which explained the life of a Gladiator, their prowess and status in ancient Rome.
Every opportunity was taken to give us more information, we particularly enjoyed the view point of the Roman Forum at night and him explaining life in the Forum and the different natures of the emperors.
He clearly loves his job and is excellent at it. It was like watching a one man show and the time went by so quickly.
Highly recommended.

Vincenzo is a fantastic guide! He made Rome come to life! I learned more about Roman history in 1.5 days with him than I did in all of my education. It is absolutely worth every penny to schedule time in Rome with Vincenzo. My husband, friends and I were very impressed with his knowledge, professionalism and sincerity. He helped us a plan a custom itinerary that met our specific interests. He even directed us to a local eatery that was divine! I would suggest you email with him prior to your visit to reserve the days you want to spend with him. Tell him your priorities for your tour and he will work to meet your needs. Thank you Vincenzo for a wonderful introduction to Rome! We look forward to seeing you again in the future!

“Amazing Tour of the Vatican”

Reviewed October 30, 2014

Vincenzo was flat out amazing. I loved the history and knowledge that he brought. I told him that my wife and I were on our first year anniversary trip and he brought us cookies and treated us to espresso to celebrate. St. Peters Church was closed the day we were supposed to do our Vatican tour and Vincenzo extended our tour by 30 min and showed us additional paintings and offered to take us back to St. Peters Church the following Monday. I loved how he engaged us and asked us questions throughout the trip. I was looking around at the other tour guides and actually felt bad that they werent able to experience Vincenzo.

Rome would not have been the same without Vincenzo!”

All of the other rave reviews of Vincenzo on this site were absolutely true. Vincenzo's insightful and knowledgeable tours were able to maximize our short (4 days) in Rome, and his energy and obvious passion for the sites, art and history were contagious. From my first contact with him by email, Vincenzo was kind enough to make recommendations suited to our age and interests, and tailored our tours for both the ancient / imperial historical rome tour and a second day at the Vatican. Magically, Vincenzo was able to keep all of us happy, despite different levels of energy and interest and knowledge in art, history, architecture, etc. On both tours, we were accompanied by two very kind "assistants" - Demo and Loretta -who made us feel especially cared for. I would strongly recommend both of these tours - and taking Vincenzo anywhere else in Rome that you might be interested in! He is worth every euro!

“Tips for visiting rome”

Reviewed September 24, 2014

My husband and I visited Rome in August and had a wonderful time, unfortunately there is currently restoration work being done so there was scaffolding on the Trevi fountain and the collosium, but still great to see. We recommend you still visit them together with the vatican and the Spanish steps. To avoid any ques we purchased the omnia card which is for 3days but if you are there longer, as we were don't activate the both cards together this will give you better value for money as one card is for the vatican city the other for transport covering the buses, trams, trains and the hop on hop off bus. There are two places to pick up the cards we feel it is better to pick up them by the vatican and you can book your guided tour there whilst you are there. The gem of our holiday was the SCAVI this is the tomb of st Peter you can only get tickets by contacting the excavation office in rome, after your tour you see the tombs of the popes and then you go into st Peter's barcilca. Lastly we recommend visiting Ostia which is an old Roman town and not to busy well worth visiting and if you buy the Omina card the train and entrance is free.

After looking at multiple reviews on trip advisor my girlfriend and I along with her parents booked a tour of the Vatican with Vincenzo, we are so glad that we did it was an amazing tour!!! Within the 1st minute we all felt the passion and deep appreciation Vincenzo has for this amazing place. The tour was booked as 3.5 hrs which really ended up being 4 hrs and despite what our feet were feeling it was so interesting and felt like it was only 2 hrs. Touring the facility for many people can be a once in a life time mind blowing experience, we would highly recommend booking a tour and choosing Vincenzo to make the experience much more meaningful, memorable and interesting. Thank you Vincenzo!!!!

Vincenzo was our guide during the Colosseum tour with Stage and Undergroud visit. We learned about the life of gladiators, their prowess and status in ancient Rome. We had an amazing experience walking on the arena floor. We also took great pictures from the third tier, the highest spot of the Colossuem. Time went by so quickly, but we had other sites to visit too, so we moved on to the Roman Forum.
This is the best way to live a few hours in ancient Rome ! Vincenzo clearly loves his job and is excellent at it.Highly recommended !
