Portfolio Project

Web Based

(Final Project 20% of overall grade)

Overview: An electronic portfolio is a concise, annotated collection of student work that reflects educational standards. It is an electronic means to showcase you, who you are, what you’ve accomplished, and what you plan on doing in your future.

Materialsneeded:

  1. Digital Camera (in the grey cabinet in the back of the lab)
  2. Web Design software such as Adobe Dreamweaver. Make sure you create a newfolder on your H: drive for this website called Electronic Portfolio (or use the Electronic Portfolio Folder I created for you under your Websites Folder). Within this folder, create an Imagefolder to store your pictures. You may use HTML templates or a tablelayout that you define. Also, you mayusecustomcreatedbuttons. The choice is yours! Use CSSstyles that are internal to your web page(s) or an external file(s) linked to your pages. See me for more information and/or assistance. Make sure each page includes a namedanchor that allows users to quickly click to return to top of page when scrolling down. Remember to “name” Web pages using the Titletextbox on Documenttoolbar of page.

Procedure:

  1. Your first page will be your homepage(index.html) welcoming visitors to your electronic portfolio. You will create buttons to hyperlink to your other pages. You must include the following on your homepage:
  2. Student name (no last name)
  3. Set up and layout the format for your final project
  4. Set up a navigation bar (it is up to you how it looks – text, pictures, etc.) so your links are ready to be linked when you create your other pages. You may use a Spry Menu Bar.
  5. Include at least 3-5 sentence introduction
  6. Any other info you think would be interesting
  7. PersonalTopic Page(up to 3). You may add a student biological/biographical section to include pictures demonstrating your special interests and goals. You can do this by adding up to 3 Personal Topic Pages. Choose a topic about you that you would like to create a page(s) about (hobbies, friends, family, pets, favorite subject, work experience, other). You may include Academic Awards and Achievements, and Extracurricular Awards and Achievements.
  8. You will include a School Page. You may include anything you would like about school (activities, clubs, classes, schedule, GPA, etc.). If you belong to the National Honor Society, or you’re an Honor Roll Recipient add this information as well.
  9. You will create a Class Work Page. You will collect samples of your best work from this class. You may include work from other classes as well. You will save your samples in digital form, converting hardcopy and performance projects (documenting each step of a project) by taking digital pictures of them and importing the pictures into your electronic portfolio. You can also scan your documents or photos using the scanners in the lab. In addition, you will include and example of your writing. COPY and PASTE the text onto the web pages. If your writing is long, you need a namedanchor (bookmark) that takes you from the bottom to the top of page. You may also elect to convert your sample writing documents to .PDF files and then link them to this page. Remember to copy the files in to your website!
  10. You will include a Heroes Page. Include pictures and a description of who your hero is and why. You may list several heroes if you wish to. Remember your hero (heroes) should be someone who impacted your life in a positive way. Someone you look up to.
  11. You will include a Future Goals & Objectives page. Choose three goals that you have for your future (include short term and long term goals). Choose one of the following two ways to set up your goals page:
  12. (1) Write a detailed paragraph about each goal (why and/or how it became your goal)

OR

  1. (2) Write a five-sentence introduction (how and why you want to do what you are about to state in the list) to your goals and use a bulleted list for your three goals.
  1. In summary, your portfolio must include a home page (see #1 above). In addition, you will have links to a page displaying your Digital design classwork and projects, a SchoolPage with sample writings and other pertinent information about your school career, up to 3 Personal Topics Pages with a biographical section with photos and pertinent information about you, a Heroes Page, and FutureGoals & Objectives page (college major, post graduation plans, etc.). You must have at least 5 pages linked from your home page.
  2. Your web based electronic portfolio should be saved to your student website and presented to the class. You may use a template however; you must redesign it and create new pages for your electronic portfolio. Either way, you should include a link to your previous websites that you created in the beginning of the semester. Plan on a 5-8 minute presentation of your portfolio. Remember, electronic portfolios can be used when applying to colleges.
  3. DUE DATE: 1/21/15. Presentations will start1/21/15and commence on 1/23/15 You must be finished and ready to present on your scheduled date. NO EXCEPTIONS! This final project is equivalent to a final exam and is worth 20% of your overall grade for this course!
