Athletics

Curling:

Our King George curlers represented King George School at the Elementary School Bonspiel as competent, capable curlers on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. As their curling coaches (Mr. Gillett, Mrs. Mitchell, Mr. Mitchell) we watched them learn to walk on the ice, show sportsmanship, balance in the hack, play as a team, slide and deliver their rocks, encourage one another, sweep, listen to their coaches, have fun plus win lots of games at our bonspiel.

Ashley Hennenfent's team won the "A" event with Ashley as skip, Teagan Huyghebaert as third, Jorja McCubbing as second and Aidan Huyghebaert as lead. A combined King George/Lindale team with Autumn Hennenfent as third and Madyson Craig as lead won two of their three games and were second in the "D" event.

Congratulations, curlers on demonstrating skill and sportsmanship!!!

Reminder – please do not park or use our parking lot as a turn around.

Reminder to Parents: Please refrain from moving any curbside recycle bins and garbage cans while picking up and/or dropping off your child at the front of King George. We realize that parking is hard to find but our neighbors must use space out front for garbage and recycling as required by the City of Moose Jaw.

Thank you for supporting our safety rule that students should be using our gates and not hopping the fence.

You are invited to our Drama Club Production

Our Drama Club led by Ms. Bloom, have been working on two plays with a great message of inclusion and good citizenship. They are based on two Dr. Seuss stories called The Lorax and The Sneetches. We have many students from grades 3-8 involved in a variety of ways from acting to set design and stage management. We would love to see lots of families there!

Two performances on March 28th

Dress Rehearsal at 1:30

Evening Performance at 6:30

School Attendance: Did you know?

Research shows that missing 18 days in most school divisions, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That is just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence.

Some students are missing so many days of school that they are academically at risk.

Chronic absence can translate into children in grade three unable to master reading and falling levels of reading behind, students in grade six failing subjects, and students in grade nine dropping out of high school.

When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating.

Absenteeism in the first month of school can predict poor attendance throughout the school year.

Half the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school in an academic year.

We want parents to ensure their children get the best start in school and in life as possible.
