INFORMATION NOTE FOR PARTICIPANTS

1. WORKSHOP Venue:

The “Stakeholders Workshop to Initiate Implementation of Impact-based Forecasts and Risk-based Warnings” will be held at the Champa Central Hotel in Male, Maldives from 26 to 28September 2016.

2. Registration of Participants:

Registration of participants will take place at the Hotel at 0830 hours on the morning of 26September 2016.

3. Working Language:

The working language of the training workshop will be English.

5. Transportation:

Airport pick-up will be arranged with participant’s name printed on a placard so that the designated personnel can meet at the arrival gate and provide transport from airport to the hotel.

6. Currency Exchange, CREDIT CARDS and Rate Information:

The Maldivian Rufiyaa is the currency of Maldives. Maldivian Rufiyaa exchange rate is1.00 USD is equivalent to 15.00 - 15.42 Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR)

The amount of foreign currency that can be imported into Maldives should not exceed USD 30,000. Passengers are required to declare the amounts to Customs at the port of entry (or departure) if the amount is above.

Credit cards for payments are accepted in most hotels and shops.

There are also ATM machines that will accept credit and cash cards from foreign countries. Please check the instructions for the compatibility of your card before using it in the machines. Most hotels travel expenses will be billed in US dollars.

Information:

The information desk (+ 960 332 3506) is located in the departures area of the terminal. A tourist information counter is available in the arrivals area of the terminal. A branch of the bank of Maldives is located by the exit in the arrivals area. It offers a foreign currency exchange service and ATM.

Public transport Air:

Seaplane: Maldivian Air taxi and trans-Maldivian Airways (+ 960 330 5201: www.transmaldivian.com – they share the same website) are seaplane operators offers between Male’ Ibrahim Nasir International Airport and their various destinations in the Maldives.

Public Transport:

Ferry: A 24 hour service provides transfers from Male; Ibrahim Nasir International Airport to Male city (journey time: approximately 10 minutes, fare MVR 10.00) are available from the ferry terminal in Male and at the airport.’

8. Electricity:

Throughout Maldives the voltage is 230 volts AC 50 Hz. Maldives uses the UK type power socket. Visitors are advised to bring their own universal adapters

Maldives local time is 05 (five) hours ahead considering the standard Greenwich Mean Time or UTC.
