Communications Committee by Maria Blanco on behalf of Beth Bierer

  • We have had difficulty during the past two years renewing the SDRME domain name before its expiration in 2015. George Nowacek (emeritus member) successfully renewed the SDRME.ORG domain name with Network Solutions (domain name vendor) until November 2020. We appreciate George’s persistence in helping us resolve this ongoing challenge.
  • The invoice for Hostek, the vendor for SDRME’s listserve, will be issued soon. Beth Beirer will forward the invoice to the Treasurer as soon as it becomes available.
  • Beth will document vendor account information and passwords to help prevent future renewal challenges.
  • The Executive Committee had a conference call to discuss the storage of SDMRE’s archival documents. The committee decided that the membership should discuss whether a separate position is needed to maintain SDRME’s archival documents given the importance of organizational memory to organize these documents. The membership discussion of this issue will be resumed at the 2016 Summer Meeting.
  • Carol Capello is seeking assistance to update the book describing the accomplishments of SDRME emeritus members.
  • The SDRME website features seven active job postings. Please send job postings to the current SDRME President (Mario Blanco).
  • Beth has updated the SDRME webpage and list serves (one for voting members and one for all members) as membership changes occur. Please review your contact information on the SDRME website and let Beth know if you have any changes.

Membership Committee by Maria Blanco on behalf of William Burton

  • Two members have been approved for emeritus status- Linda Perkowski and Anne Frye.
  • Two new members have been approved for regular member status- KathrynN Huggett, now at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, and Lynne Robbins from the University of Washington.
  • Hugh Stoddard is the new chair of the membership committee. The membership expressed sincere gratitude to William Burton for his outstanding work as chair.

International Membership Committee by Carol Capello on behalf of Jennifer Gibson

  • Two new international members have been added since July, which brings the membership total to 18.
  • Based on recommendations from the 2014 AMEE meeting, an attempt was made to organize an offsite meeting during the 2015 conference to promote networking and collaborative research. However, due to logistical challenges, an informal lunch meeting took place instead. Moving forward, it was decided that an informal session at AMEE will be held during the Monday lunch slot.

  • We lost track of Abby Spencer (one of the authors) and cannot get in touch with her.
  • Christopher Mooney inquired as to the history of the invited reviews and posed the question if we should also consider other forms of scholarly products. This topic will be discussed in more detail in the summer meeting.

4. AAMC Council of Faculty and Academic Societies (CFAS) by Boyd Richards & Kathryn Dey Huggett

  • To date, CFAS leadership has not moved forward with proposed plans to involve SDRME in a program evaluation.
  • CFAS did announce a new initiative: “…an experiment where you identify broad content areas of interest to you, and interact with like-minded CFAS reps throughout the year on these topics. The groups will be informally structured and entirely self-directed rather than actively supported by the AAMC or CFAS.”
  • Why are we (CFAS) trying this? Many of you have asked over the past year for more ways to engage with your peers and with the CFAS community generally.
  • What are the content areas? 13 to start, includingGME policy and advocacy, Residency training issues, Medical education issues, NIH funding and advocacy, Basic science and research issues, Faculty leadership and advancement, and Faculty vitality and resilience
  • Katie has submitted areas of interest (medical education, faculty vitality) and is waiting to hear next steps.
  • CFAS programming at Learn Serve Lead 2015 is mostly networking/reception activities. With the approval of SDRME, Boyd will attend the CFAS Spring Meeting in March 2016.
