Job title:Security Team Manager [Supervisory Security Officer]

Purpose of the job:

The post holder is responsible to the Head of Security Services, via the Security Manager, for providing management of a team of Security Officers, day to day supervision of the Security Officers on duty, the efficient management of the Security Office and the effective response to incidents both on the Bath campus and off Campus student accommodation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. The effective management of a team of Security Officers, parking wardens and support staff including supervision, continued professional development, assessment, monitoring sickness and welfare, identifying training needs, setting goals and objectives, coaching, monitoring and policing annual leave, ‘banked hours’, overtime and daily duties. This responsibility will include regular Campus and Off Campus patrols to monitor and assess the working practices of each officer including those you are responsible for Off Campus and accommodation.
  1. Maintaining an awareness of the University plan, Departmental Plan, aims and objectives. Setting objectives to staff that support these goals and monitoring their performance with regular reviews and a full annual review (SDPR).
  1. Ensure that the Equality and Diversity policies are appropriately implemented and mentioned accordingly in SDPR’s. Ensure that all reasonable adjustments are made for individual members of staff who require additional support. Actively seek to identify staff that require support under the E&D policy.
  1. Seek to identify members of staff for potential lateral and upward development.
  1. The supervision of incidents occurring on and off Campus within your areas of responsibility, ensuring compliance of University Regulations and an awareness of implications for outside agencies. (E.g. Drug searches, sudden deaths). Ensure that all incidents and events are accurately recorded on the Safeguard Incident Reporting system.
  1. Maintaining regular radio contact withSecurity Officers and other members of University staff, as and when appropriate. (E.g. Receptionists and Grounds staff).
  1. Ensure staff are fully briefed at the commencement of each tour of duty and that ‘handover sheets’ are completed to an appropriate and accurate level. Ensure that staff are informed of any new organisational changes.
  1. Supervision of asset security,patrolling, locking and unlocking of all campus and off campus buildings as required.
  1. Day to Day Management of the Security Control Room, ensuring all equipment is in a fully operational condition and that all records held are current and accurate (E.g. Emergency Contact List).
  1. Staffing security points, controlling access to restricted areas, monitoring and utilising security systemsincluding CCTV, ANPR, Access Control and alarm panels, ensuring full compliance with SOP’s and the Data Protection Act..
  1. Handling calls on behalf of the University switchboard outside standard hours.
  1. Maintaining the security of the office safe and contents together with other secure storage. Ensure that all staff handling lost and found property comply fully with current SOP’s and that all items are accurately recorded on the Safeguard Incident Reporting system and that active enquiries to locate owners of property is undertaken in a timely fashion.
  1. Supervision of the policing of car-parks, ensuring breaches of regulations are appropriately enforced.
  1. Summoning and liaising with public services; following emergency procedures, including calling out doctors and responding to alarms. Ensure staff have an awareness of scene preservation and the expectations of outside agencies.
  1. Supervision of the receiving and directing of visitors, students and delegates etc.
  1. Supervision of traffic duty, especially during ‘special events’.
  1. Maintaining all required records and operational equipment (e.g. security vehicles), ensuring staff are appropriately qualified and licensed to use the relevant equipment.
  1. Completion of relevant reports and the supervision ofpersonal radio’s and operating procedures, Emergency and non-emergency phones anduse of surveillance equipment (including CCTV (overt and covert) and body cams).
  1. Supervise medical incidents and arrange medical escorts and attendance of outside agencies, if required. Offer basic ‘welfare’ advice and ‘first aid’.
  1. Issuing keys and key cards in accordance with procedures.
  1. Enforcement of the Student Residences Regulations, reporting and giving verbal warnings and issuing Fixed Penalty Notices where appropriate. Have regular liaison with the Senior Resident Tutor, Resident Tutors and Accommodation Security Officers.
  1. Monitoring and reporting breaches of Health and Safety regulationswhere appropriate and incidents of energy waste, which would impact on the organisation’s carbon footprint.
  1. All staff should be aware of the existence and contents of the Departmental Plan and have aims and objectives whichsupport the department’s and organisation’s plans.
  1. Ensure ‘champions’ are appointed in each team to cover specialist requirements. (E.g. Traka, Covert CCTV, 4x4 vehicles etc.)
  1. Any other duty commensurate with the role.

Notes:-

  1. The post holder will wear the approved University Security uniformed
  2. The role is based on a 36.5 hour per week rotational shift pattern covering 365 days per year over 24 hours per day + 2 hours contracted overtime PW.
  3. Staff must be aware of and conform with the Security Standing Operating Procedures [SOP’s]
  4. In performing all these duties there is a need for discretion and confidentiality, as well as a need to be able to establish effective working relationships with other members and employees of the University and to present a positive image of the University to outside organisations and their representatives.
  5. Post holders are required to hold a valid driving licence.
  6. The post is non-sedentary and involves considerable walking during the course of a shift.

  • Be knowledgeable and experienced in general security roles, responsibilities, patrols andtypes of incidents.
  • Previous practical experience in a relevant security related field.
  • Basic knowledge of criminal law and powers.
