The purpose of this assignment is to practice interviewing and listening skills while you collect information for a class presentation. The interview should take 10 to 15 minutes. Each student in your speech class this semester must interview a different teacher, administrator, or employee of GISD.

When you make your presentation in class, the 2-4 minute speech must be structured with an introduction, three main points, and a conclusion. Keep this in mind when interviewing to be sure to get plenty of information. Pay special attention to your delivery skills and maintaining proper speech decorum. In other words: Keep it professional. Of course, being polite and courteous is expected.

Also be sure to ask for information on several different areas. Some suggestions for organizing your main points are:

Below you will find several interview questions to get you started with basic information for your interview. You may borrow some of these questions but need to come up with a list of about 20 topics to discuss with your subject during your interview. Avoid asking questions you already know the answers to. You will conduct the interview as though you are a television news reporter in front of a camera. Place two chairs at an angle to each other and ask your questions without looking at the camera. Be sure BOTH of you can be seen on camera.

You may edit your video if you’d like. Keep in mind, though, that your finished video MUST BE FORMATTED TO PLAY ON MS. MCGUIRE’S COMPUTER!!! I recommend you use YouTube.

Your video will be due TWO DAYS before the speeches.
