msg Establishes IT Security Consulting for the Public Sector

msg is investing in information security for the public sector / IT security expert Jens Westphal is heading up the expansion / High demand in the public sector

Munich, August 5, 2015. msg is expanding its security consulting portfolio specifically for the public sector. They were able to acquire IT security expert Jens Westphal for the specialized expansion, which will follow internationally recognized standards. With their new staff member, msg will be able to further counteract the continuously growing threats that espionage, wiretapping and cyber attacks pose for the public sector. The resulting new consulting service compliments the current services available for the public sector and the information security portfolio in general.

Jens Westphal brings almost 20 years of experience in the security industry with him. He has been involved in numerous related projects and has experience with ISO and IT-Grundschutz certification audits. With his extensive knowledge of project management and consulting, which he most recently employed in his position with a German IT security provider, he is the ideal addition to msg’s hands-on and established approach in the public sector. The graduate mathematician will now work with a team of consultants to offer public authorities, as well as organizations and institutes that are vitally important for the general commonwealth, individual and combinable security solutions and concepts.

Jens Westphal, Public Sector Security Consulting Manager at msg, states, “Our solution designs are based on nationally and internationally recognized standards, such as ISO 27001 and the IT-Grundschutz set forth by the BSI (Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security). The service spectrum ranges from auditing existing IT security structures to any further developments that may be necessary. We are now available to offer these services to public authorities and institutes as well.”

msg Combines Business and Industry Expertise for Public Authorities

msg’s wide range of activities and Jens Westphal’s own professional experience will allow him and his team of consultants to combine extensive experience and professional qualities. This, in turn, will enable them to find custom solutions for every organization, as well as to efficiently and successfully realize projects that have IT security requirements. Although it should be noted that IT security is an integral part of almost every project and involves many cross functions. One area where public authorities have really begun to feel a high demand for data protection and data security is the transition of previously paper-based processes to modern electronic processes.

Jürgen Fritsche, Vice President Public Sector Solutions Consulting, explains, “We are very pleased to have acquired an expert like Jens Westphal. With him at our side, we will now be able to expand msg’s existing portfolio in the field of information security to meet the specific needs of our customers in the public sector.”

Considerable Backlog Demand in Public Sector Security

Numerous data scandals in recent months have heightened the pressure for change in the public sector. These have been the result of public authorities’ and the public sector’s hesitancy to invest, which has generally prevented them from keeping up with the rapid speed of innovation seen in information technology. At the same time, attackers have become increasingly aware of the digitalization of sensitive workflows and of the obsolete state of the public sector’s IT security infrastructure. Furthermore, once public authorities begin investigating concepts such as cloud computing, the greater their need for well-designed IT security will be. With its precisely-coordinated portfolio, msg will be able to provide the know-how necessary to bring IT security in the public sector up-to-date and to prepare them for future threats.
