Philip Tate, APR, Fellow PRSA, is Senior Vice President for Luquire George Andrews (LGA), a full-service communications firm in Charlotte, N.C., that focuses on the advertising, digital and public relations needs of private and publicly held companies. He currently serves as immediate past chair of the PRSA College of Fellows, his fourth year on the executive committee.

Since joining LGA in 1992, Philip has managed award-winning integrated marketing initiatives for many of the agency’s leading clients, including the Atlantic Coast Conference, Blum, the NFL Carolina Panthers, Lincoln Harris, National Gypsum, Pappas Properties and Rodgers Builders. The resulting campaigns have earned Silver Anvil Awards and Queen City PR Awards from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), Best in Show and Crown Awards from the Charlotte Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and garnered numerous local, regional and national ADDY Awards from the American Advertising Federation (AAF).

Over the past five years, Philip has directed the agency’s extensive multi-million dollar integrated marketing effort for National Gypsum, which represented the manufacturer’s first consumer-facing campaign in more than 30 years. The PURPLE®campaign included sponsorship of DIY Network’s Blog Cabin, an extensive national public relations tour and series of “how to” videos featuring Mega Dens TV show host Anitra Mecadon, the PURPLE-To-Perfect Room Renovation Contest and development of a new website (AskForPurple.com), Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Google+ and You Tube pages, part of the company’s first foray into social media. The campaign won a Silver Anvil Award in the Marketing Consumer Products category at the 2016 PRSA Silver Anvil Awards, the industry’s most prestigious competition recognizing outstanding strategic public relations planning and execution. The campaign previously received two Awards of Excellence in the categories of Marketing Communications and Integrated Marketing at the 2014 PRSA Silver Anvil Awards ceremony. The campaign also received the 2016 Queen City PR Award in Integrated Communications, one of only three programs to be honored by the Charlotte chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).

Philip has devoted much of his volunteer time in recent years to PRSA. He served a three-year term (2013-2015) as a member of the PRSA Board of Ethics and Professional Standards (BEPS) and has served four times on the PRSA Nominating Committee (2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016). He served consecutive terms as treasurer on the PRSA national board of directors in 2010-2011, leading the effort to pass a dues increase, the first in more than 10 years. Prior to that, he represented the Southeast District as a director on the PRSA national board (2008-2009), serving as a member of the Finance Committee and board liaison to the PRSA Foundation, PRSSA, and the Honors and Awards committee. He has served as a voting delegate at the PRSA Leadership Assembly every year since 2008. He was inducted into the PRSA College of Fellows Class of 2012.

Philip has held every leadership position in the PRSA Charlotte Chapter, including president. In 2002, he received his Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) from the Universal Accreditation Board and remains deeply involved in the Charlotte Chapter accreditation program, hosting kickoff sessions, teaching study sessions and mentoring candidates as a readiness review panelist. He remains active with the chapter’s nominating and awards committees and regularly attends monthly luncheons and other networking events. In 2010, he received the Infinity Award, the highest honor the PRSA Charlotte Chapter awards to its members, for representing the highest standards of character, career and service.

Philip also remains active with the PRSA Southeast District, having presented at district conferences and leadership rally events. A long-standing member of the PRSA Counselors Academy, he has presented at the spring conference and joined the PRSA Travel and Tourism Sectionin 2011 after LGA began working with the North Carolina Division of Tourism, Film and Sports Development. He also served on the Board of Advisors at the Center for Global Public Relations at UNC Charlotte. Over the last decade, he has spoken to numerous PRSA and PRSSA chapters, professional development seminars and leadership rally events.

Philip began his tenure at LGA as manager of the Charlotte Organizing Committee for the 1994 NCAA Men’s Final Four Basketball Championship – the highest profile event in college athletics. He worked with a budget of $1.8 million and supervised a volunteer staff of 1,500 while coordinating media, special events, signage and transportation.

Prior to LGA, Philip was senior vice president of Host Communications, a Lexington, Ky.-based sports marketing firm.During his nine-year tenure with Host in its Lexington, Dallas and Charlotte offices, Philip directed the company’s public relations efforts while managing several award-winning publications and syndicated radio and television programming.

Away from the office, Philip has served as volunteer chair for the YMCA of Greater Charlotte Y-Guides Program, a father-child program for more than 3,000 families and one of the largest of its kind in the United States. He also has spearheaded local fundraising campaigns for the American Heart Association, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Urban Ministry Center and the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.

Philip graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a double minor in political science and history. When he is not spending time with his wife, Brenda, and their two daughters, Meredith and Morgan, Philip enjoys walking, reading, singing in church choir, gardening and answering sports, music and movie trivia questions.
