STANDARD OPERATING GUIDELINE

Guideline Title: Engine Riding Positions

I.  PURPOSE:

To define the riding positions for engines.

II.  DISCUSSION:

This SOG defines the riding positions of the engines used by the Flint Hill Fire Department. Each position is assigned specific tasks to perform based on the type of incident being responded to.

III.  GUIDELINE:

Positions

Each seat in an engine is assigned a specific task as follows:

·  Driver: Driver

·  Passenger: Officer

·  Passenger side behind Officer: Nozzle

·  Driver side behind Driver: Tools

·  Middle (1 or 2 depending on engine): Lineman

Position Responsibilities

Driver

1.  Drive apparatus in accordance with guideline 400.01 APPARATUS RESPONSE SOG.

2.  While on an incident scene where water is needed operate the fire pump based on the direction of the IC and the requirements of the incident using the 400 series Emergency Operations SOGs of the Operations Manual as a guide.

3.  Upon return to the station lead crew in returning engine to service.

4.  Assume the role of Officer if required.

Officer

1.  Assume responsibility for apparatus and crew.

2.  Operate apparatus mobile radio during response and return to station.

3.  Assist Driver in navigation and response in accordance with guideline 400.01 APPARATUS RESPONSE SOG.

4.  Upon arrival on scene establish command in accordance with guideline 402.01 INCIDENT COMMAND SOG if command has not already been established.

5.  Perform on scene tasks as directed by IC

6.  Maintain accountability for crew in accordance with guideline 402.01 INCIDENT COMMAND SOG

7.  Assume role of Nozzle if required.

Nozzle

1.  Deploy hand line at incidents requiring one.

2.  Perform tasks based on the requirements of the incident using the 400 series Emergency Operations SOGs of the Operations Manual as a guide.

3.  Assume role of Tools if required.

Tools

1.  Deploy appropriate tools based on incident type.

2.  Perform tasks based on the requirements of the incident using the 400 series Emergency Operations SOGs of the Operations Manual as a guide.

3.  Assume role of Lineman if required.

Lineman

1.  Assist Nozzle position with hand line deployment at incidents requiring one.

2.  Perform tasks based on the requirements of the incident using the 400 series Emergency Operations SOGs of the Operations Manual as a guide.

3.  Assist other crew members as required based on incident type.
