Professional Development includes district and individual professional development experiences, and other opportunities offered by a New Jersey registered provider. Goals and activities may be modified throughout the calendar year to meet emerging needs of the staff member.
This 2010-2011 Professional Development Plan recognizes the need to meet professional standards for teachers. Due to the diverse nature of the district and the individualized characteristics of the plan, certain standards will be emphasized more than others for specific staff members and will be reflected in their Professional Development Plan. For example, staff members who work with students who are transitioning out of school will focus on the collaboration and partnership standard (standard 9); others may recognize the need for concentrating on Subject Matter Knowledge and Instructional Planning and Strategies (Standard 4) in order to acquire additional knowledge and skills needed to teach NJCCCS. In general, an overall emphasis will be placed on Professional Development (standard 10) whereby staff members will engage in continued reflective practices through collegial sharing at staff meetings, professional learning communities, and presentation at or attendance at workshops such as CPI Training, Sensory Integration, Assistive Technology, etc.
