2017-2018 UGRASP Research and Scholarship Funding Application Instructions

Eligible Projects: UGRASP will fund costs for projects from any academic discipline provided that:

1)The project must make an original intellectual or creative contribution to the discipline.

2)Students must demonstrate at least partial ownership of the project.

UGRASP will not provide funding for students to work on a project assigned by a faculty member.

3)The student must engage with the academic history of the discipline in which they are working.

4)The project must be presentable in the format accepted by professionals within the discipline in which the student is working.

Deadlines: •Round 1–September 22, 2017 •Round 2–November 17, 2017 •Round 3–February 16, 2018

Award Limit: $500 per project, regardless of the number of students involved.

Eligibility: All SUU undergraduate students that will be enrolled during the project timeframe.

Application Process: Applications should be submitted electronically as a Word or PDF document to . E-mailed files must include the last name of the student applicant in the e-mail subject line and within the file name in the following format UGRASP-RES-“Smith-J”. Applications should be single spaced in a clear font, maintaining a 1-inch margin along all sides of the page.

Complete Applications Must Include:

1)A completed cover page. The template for the cover page can be found on the UGRASP website This cover page should be the first page of your electronic file.

2)An abstract or summary of the project (not to exceed 250 words).

3)A project description (not to exceed 2 pages, excluding references, figures, and tables).

The project description should include:

a)an introduction that places the project in the broader context of the discipline and clearly explains the rationale or justification for the project

b)a clear statement of the goals, objectives, or hypothesis being tested

c)a concise description of the methodology to be used

d)a timetable for activities associated with the project

4)A personal impact statement describing how the student will benefit from the project.

5)An itemized budget, including a brief justification. If your budget exceeds $500 by more than 10% (i.e. if your budget is greater than $550) you must clearly indicate those expenses for which you are requesting UGRASP funding. You must also indicate how the remaining expenses will be covered if completion of the project is contingent upon other resources.

6)A letter of support from the faculty mentor submitted separatelyto . Support letters may be brief but should describe the extent of student involvement. Letters must:

contain the following statement:

a)I assume responsibility for all aspects of this project including 1) obtaining any necessary permits or approvals, 2) insuring funds are spent and expenses documented in accordance with SUU policies, and 3) insuring the student presents results at the Festival of Excellence and upon completion provides UGRASP with a project synopsis.

b)be e-mailed and include the last name of the student applicant in the e-mail subject line and within the file name(e.g. UGRASP-RES-FacSupport-“Smith-J”).
