SUBJECT: Report on Formal Bid Openings for Town Hall Water Tank Painting

Project and Water Plant Emergency Standby Generator

……………………………………………………………………..

Two formal bid openings were held at The Town of Nags Head municipal complex Wednesday, December 19, 2001. The purpose of the bid openings was to receive bids for the installation of an emergency standby generator at the 2110 Pond Avenue Water Plant, and for painting of the 300,000 gallon elevated water tank located at the Town Hall complex. Bids for each project were opened at 1:30 P.M. and 2:00 P.M. respectively and were handled in accordance with state law and town policy.

Mr. Joe Hardee, an engineer from Cavanaugh & Associates has tabulated the results of the above bids which are as follows:

Standby Generator

Williams & Lamm Electric Base Bid $68,650 Alt Bid 1 $23,797 Alt Bid 2 $44,853

L. J.’s Electric Base Bid $97,200 Alt Bid 1 $22,500 Alt Bid 2 $74,500

B & M Contractors Base Bid $75,930 Alt Bid 1 $10,220 Alt Bid 2 $67,739

Painting of Town Hall Tank

Utility Service Co., Inc. Base Bid $65,750

J & W Sandblasting Base Bid $67,000

Southern Corrosion, Inc Base Bid $80,363

Mr. Hardee has recommended that the bid for installing the standby generator at the water plant be awarded to Williams and Lamm Electric from Rocky Mount, North Carolina in the amount of $68,650. This was the lowest responsible bidder for this project, and the bid amount is less than the $85,000 originally projected for this work.

Mr. Hardee has also recommended that the bid for painting the older 300,000-gallon elevated water tank at the municipal complex be awarded to Utility Service Co. from Perry, Georgia in the amount of $65,750.00. This was the lowest responsible bidder for this project, and the amount is less than the $121,000.00 originally projected for this work.

Staff concurs with the recommendations from Cavanaugh & Associates and recommends that the Standby Generator Project be awarded to Williams & Lamm Electric from Rocky Mount, North Carolina and the Town Hall Tank Painting Project be awarded to Utility Service Co. from Perry, Georgia.
