PositionDescription:

The Research Director performs difficult professional and responsible administrative work in directing, planning, organizing and coordinating KACo’s research services in support of KACo’s programs.

Duties:

  • Plan, manage and implement KACo research efforts.
  • Supervise accumulation of information, data analysis and preparation of reports on issues of relevance to local governance.
  • Design and implement appropriate research tools to meet KACo’s priority information needs.
  • Provide research assistance to KACo staff as requested.
  • Develop budgets for specific research or information initiatives.
  • Maintain extensive contact with county officials and support staff to identify constituent information and data needs.
  • Assist KACo boards and committees with parliamentary procedure issues as requested.
  • Represent KACo as assigned at organizations of state and local officials.
  • Respond to inquiries from KACo members and conducts training regarding non-legal questions about best practices, parliamentary procedure, and other topics as approved.
  • Coordinate efforts to organize KACo archiving efforts of research and information materials, including periodicals, state and local issue documents, and other research.
  • Work with the KACo communications staff to devise the most effective and efficient means of delivering research-based information to KACo members and to the news media.
  • Assist in the editing and proofreading of CountyLine magazine and other documents as requested.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s)

  • Basic KSAs
  • Ten years research practices experience
  • Ten years local government experience
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite programs
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Must be able to work well with others
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform job duties consistent with federal, state and local standards
  • Ability to maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with federal, state and local standards
  • Must be able to routinely sit for extended periods daily
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Overnight travel is required.
