FIELD TRAINING OFFICER COURSE
(40 HOURS)

REGISTRATION:Course registration will begin promptly at 0700 hours on the first day of class. You should plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of class.
COURSE CONTENT:This course is designed for recently appointed Field Training Officers from Law Enforcement agencies. It is designed to develop an understanding of the goals and objectives of a P.O.S.T. approved Field Training Program through the use of various training techniques and student interaction and involvement. The student will gain the ability to:
- Provide the trainee with the means of applying their knowledge and skills to their work environment.
- Provide an on-going constructive feedback and timely written evaluations based on agency performance standards providing the trainee the opportunity to successfully complete the program.
- Recognize different learning styles and respond accordingly to the needs of the trainee.
- Apply communication and counseling skills to assist trainees in resolving conflicts relating to and arising from their assignment.
- Effectively deal with substandard performance by developing training goals and remediation plans to improve performance.
- Understand their responsibilities as to when to intervene in a trainee’s actions and when to override a trainee’s decision(s).
PREREQUISITE:Completion of a P.O.S.T. Certified BasicAcademy.
CERTIFICATION:This course is certified (#2410 31725) and reimbursed under P.O.S.T. Plan II. If claiming reimbursement, please bring a TRR, P.O.S.T. Form 2-273. Class hours are mandated by P.O.S.T. and full participation is required for certification. Completion certificates will be awarded.
TUITION/CREDIT:1.5 lower division semester units will be awarded for completion of this course (AJ 330). Tuition is $69.00. Agencies / students can pay at the time of registration on the first day of class or the agency may be billed. California non-residents will be charged an additional out-of-state tuition fee of $183.00 per unit for a total of $243.50. Fees are subject to change without prior notice.
SUPPLIES:Students are required to furnish paper and pencil for note and test taking.
DRESS:Business casual clothing (no jeans, denims, shorts, flip-flops, tennis shoes)
