September 2012
“Back To School” means “Remember the Rules”!
School is back in session and the school buses are on the road again. Please use caution and observe all traffic safety rules when approaching a school bus or school bus stop.
When a school bus is traveling on a two-lane roadway and is stopped to pick up or drop off students, the vehicles in ALL lanes of traffic must stop. Vehicles should stop at least twenty (20) feet before reaching the school bus. Violating the law can lead to citation, strict fine and loss of license.
The village ordered and installed a new solar powered LED school warning signsystem on Route 120 at Prairieview School. The Mayor and the village engineering firm have been working with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to pursue what safety improvements would be allowed. Please do not text and drive! This is the number one reason for accidents occurring today! Stay safe!
SummerRecap
- The village has made it through the drought and offers thanks to everyone for conserving on water use and respecting the fire ban. Village common areas and newer plantings were protected with weekend watering by our seasonal part-time help; no overtime or extra man hours were accrued.
- The 8th Annual Community Garage Sale had ninety (90) participants this year and continues to grow in popularity and success.
- Village mosquito abatement program has added additional adult spray treatments due to the increase in the West Nile Virus in our area. Backpack larviciding applications also continue throughout breeding sites. Please be sure to drain any rain water or any standing water such as bird baths etc.
- Hainesville Fest- The American Legion did a great job offering both food and the Beer Tent. Cheesy Force One and Wine Knows were welcomed back for their second year with great success. Standard favorites included Tres Flores (funnel cakes & hand squeezed lemonade), Handmade Specialtiesand A-Awesome Amusements.
Four (4) bands provided great music this year. The Scotch Lads, Another Shade of Grey, The Waterfront Dogs and the Jelly Bone Blues Band. Many compliments on the music!!!
