Grading Policy:
Your grade will be comprised of the following:
1)Homework – Graded/Effort – 15%
Homework is given on an almost daily basis and is expected to be completed for a grade. It will be graded on effort and reasonability of understanding.
2)Class Participation – Class work – 25%
Class participation and class work are comprised of daily activities in class as well as group activities and are graded on correctness or effort depending on the assignment.
3)Tests and Quizzes – 35%
A test will be given at the end of each chapter with one to three quizzes for each chapter, unless the chapter warrants quizzes only. The dates for the tests and quizzes will be displayed in class from the beginning of the trimester and the students will be given advance notice if it is to change.
4)Final Exam – 25%
The exam will be given at the end of the trimester during exam time. It will cover all the material learned during the trimester.
If a grade is borderline and you have been participating in class, coming for help, showing concern and effort for your grade, and putting forth an effort to improve, rounding of your grade will be taken into consideration.
Grade Scale:
A = 100 – 93
B = 92 – 85
C = 84 – 75
D = 74 – 70
F = 69 – 0
Make-up work:
It is your responsibility to make up any work when you are missing from class. Make-up work is organized by the date you were absent from the classroom. Your options for making up work are during homeroom and before or after school. Make-up work must be turned in within the guidelines spelled out in the handbook. If it is not made up within the guidelines, it may be turned in within one week of return for half credit, anything after two weeks from the due date will not be accepted for a grade. Tests and quizzes taken after the required time, will drop by a letter grade or more depending on when it is made up.
If you struggle in the class it is up to you to come to me for help. I am here during homeroom, before and after school, and at a time that may be scheduled by both of us. Getting help is the easiest way to stay on top of the material. If you fall behind or do not understand, get help immediately, waiting only gets you further behind and frustrated.
Electronic Devices:
Electronic Devices are not permitted in class unless permission has been given by the teacher. Permission will be given for each usage and must be earned. If permission is given, the teacher reserves the right to revoke the privilege at any time. It is expected that if permission is given, the student uses the device properly in accordance with its intended use. With the ability on many devices for texting, calling, internet surfing, etc., it is expected the student will NOT use it for these purposes unless specifically told by the teacher.
Cell Phones:
Cell phones are not permitted in class for any reason. If a student is found to be using a cell phone or any reason, disciplinary action will be taken.
