The Baltimore Federal Executive Board is pleased to announce the31st annual Federal Women’s Trainingand Awards Programon Wednesday, March 20, 2013. The program will be held at Martin’s West, 6817 Dogwood Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21244. Registration will be open from 7:00 a.m. to8:00 a.m. The programwill run from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The program’s national theme for2013is“Women Inspiring Innovation Through Imagination: Celebrating Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.”We will feature a dynamic speaker, Dr. AprilleEriccson, to uplift and inform our program participants during National Women’s History Month.
Theregistration fee has is $95.00, which includes a conferencepadfolio, continental breakfast, lunch, two interactive workshop sessions, awards presentation, and access to a number of vendors and exhibitors. This training will be of value–both professionally and personally–toagency employers and employees alike. The maximum number of attendees is 500.Seats sell out quickly each year, so please register early.
The workshop sessions will be carefully planned and structured to meet the U.S. Office of Personnel Management’s Leadership Qualifications and Core Competencies.The sessions will involve and define fundamental areas in Leading Change, Leading People, Results Driven Business Acumen, and Building Coalitions. Program participants will be able to select 2 of the 4training sessions. Concurrent sessions will run for 90 minutes, repeated in the morning and in the afternoon. The workshops are identified on the attached registration form.

Program Workshop Synopses
I. Growing Into Another Position–Sheila Lee, As a master Trainer/Facilitator Sheila Lee specializes in Instructional System Designs and Training Management programs for adult learners that increase an individual’s effectiveness while fulfilling organizational goals. Sheila Lee and her organization have worked in approximately 130 countries, on projects related to the areas of conflict, extremism, and knowledge management. For example, they have served as lead trainers for the USAID Program and Project Management Training (PPMT) programs which increase local capacity to efficiently implement programs that will stimulate and further develop local infrastructure, economy, health and social well-being.
SYNOPSIS:During this session, attendees will identify learning and development goals; learn to take ownership of their career development; assess their skill level in the competencies related to the required skill level for their career; identify their professional career goals and development needs based on the identified skill gap; learn to communicate those goals (both career and development) clearly and succinctly; create realistic IDPs targeting specific career opportunities; periodically assess their progress toward reaching their goals.
After participating in classroom discussion, create a career path action plan to identify and encourage development of career goals/objectives.
Course length: 90 minutes per session
II. Handling the Challenge of Change–Robin Suttonutilizes her extensive background in Human Resources, Customer Relationship Management, instructional design, and employee development as a springboard in working with managers and supervisors in developing leadership skills.
Her ability to facilitate a variety of needs and work through problem areas is a strong asset to her probing, yet humorous delivery style. Her skills include developing modules that map to an entity’s needs, planning, writing, and then delivering the focused material in a professional manner.
Delivering to an international audience, she has presented a large variety of Professional development seminars such as Is Change Constant?, Building Office Professionalism, Building Success with Four Blocks, Growing Into Another Position, Handling the Challenge of Change, Building Your Personal Brand, and many more. She is an active member of ASTD, SHRM, and AMA.
SYNOPSIS:This program will help you move past any resistance or fear that can accompany changes or transitions within an organization. You will go beyond the situations that change brings (new people, new policies, and new location) and explore the psychological processes people go through to come to terms with any new situation. You will learn to adopt a fluid proactive style of change management that enables you and your co-workers to react positively to any transition. Learn techniques that promote positive change; tips on creating a powerful working vision both for yourself and your organization.
Using your own work group as a basis, define the various stakeholders’ role in change and successfully create a plan for each to increase his/her role in change.
Based on in-class discussion, successfully identify the attitudes and behaviors that underlie critical change management skills.

III. The Secret to Effective Communication: Mastering Personality Styles – Wanda McCallum is one of Leader Development Institute’s premier speakers and trainers serving organizations throughout the US.
Wanda began her career as a software programmer after earning a bachelor's degree in computer science. After spending several years on Wall Street and consulting she began to pursue her master’s degree in psychology in preparation for a career transition.
In 2002, Wanda began working in the mental health field, where she gained invaluable insight and practical experience and became a Licensed Professional Counselor. In 2007, Ms. McCallum opened her private practice. Yet, her passion for working with organizations drew her back to Corporate America, this time as a professional speaker, trainer and coach.

SYNOPSIS: Do you ever notice how you get along with some colleagues really well…And then there are others that just annoy you when they walk into the office? One of the keys to this common phenomenon is personality differences. The greatest leaders and managers have mastered their understanding of personality style differences…So do those who have long-term, happy personal relationships, business partnerships, and a strong network of friends and colleagues. In this fully interactive workshop, participants will break out into four personality groups as each team guides the other teams to communicate with ‘their’ style more effectively. In this workshop, participants will learn…
•How to communicate more effectively with those who have a different personality style;
•How the ‘Platinum Rule’ can even be more effective than the ‘Golden Rule’ at work;
•Tools to immediately begin improving your current relationships;
•How to influence others with a different style

IV. CSRS/FERS Retirement and The Thrift Savings Plan –Edward “Ned” W.H. Kissinger, CFP®, ChFEBCSM, CFEdTM - Ned is the Executive Vice President of Kissinger Financial Services, Inc., in Hunt Valley, MD, a division of Sanders Morris Harris, Inc. Ned was named a Five Star Wealth Manager in Baltimore Magazine for three consecutive years (2011-2013), and has also served as a member of the Blue Ribbon Panel for 6 years for the “Excellence in Federal Career Awards Program.”
After graduating from Gettysburg College, Ned worked for Merrill Lynch at their district headquarters located in downtown Washington, DC. In July of 2001, he, and his wife Margo, moved to back to MD where he took his current position at Kissinger Financial Services, Inc.
Kissinger Financial Services, Inc. was started in 1982 by Ned’s father, William I. Kissinger, CPA/PFS, CFP®. Ned is a Certified Financial PlannerTM, Chartered Federal Employee Benefit Consultant and Certified Financial Educator. One of his specialties is helping federal employees make wise decisions in regards to their financial planning. He conducts retirement classes at many local universities and colleges in the Baltimore areas, as well as being the benefits and financial planning instructor for the pre-retirement courses sponsored by the Baltimore Federal Executive Board. Ned instructs close to 1,000 Federal Employees every year through the seminars conducted by The Federal Executive Board and other government agencies.
Ned is the author of, “The Battlefield of Retirement, Stories and Strategies from the Front Lines.” He also is a contributing author with Joel Freeman for the book, “If Nobody Loves You, Create the Demand – The Workbook” which, since being published, has been distributed to thousands of churches throughout the U.S. and the world. Ned also contributed to the book,“Maximizing Your Federal Benefits, A Government Employee’s Survival Guide.”
In today’s complex world, Ned realizes the importance of preparing and educating people to help them achieve their financial goals.
SYNOPSIS:The seminar will provide a description of how Federal Employees produce retirement income. We will have a brief overview of each component of an employees retirement income sources. These components include CSRS/FERS annuity, TSP withdrawals, Social Security and possible part-time income (i.e. rehired annuitant/contractor). The goal is to provide attendees with a foundation of knowledge regarding their retirement from which they can build upon.
