3K PARENTS
May 28, 2010
Happy Memorial Day seems a bit like an oxymoron but you know what I mean. I hope that the weather is wonderful and you enjoy the bustling island. This weekend’s activity is always a sure sign that summer is right around the corner.
It’s been a busy week in third grade:
- We learned our 7s multiplication table. That means we have now reviewed and practiced all tables from 0-10. We will continue to practice these for the remainder of the year.
- We read a nice story about a girl who traveled to Korea to visit family there entitled, Yunmi and Halmoni’s Trip.
- We worked on our essay here at school and at home. These are coming along very nicely.
- Adding similes to our writing enhances it even more and we practiced that as well.
- Our trip to the MVRHS was a huge success! We had a grand tour, ate lunch in the cafeteria, shared our poems in our pockets, enjoyed a play of Irish Mythology and had a few minutes before we left to have our faces painted and play capture the flag. It was a wonderful visit!
- When we returned from the High School, we worked with Kate from the Trustees for our last classroom visit. The stations were very fun.
- We enjoyed our field trip to Menemsha Hills, The Galley and our Walk to the Sea.
Next week:
- There is no school on Monday in observation of Memorial Day.
- We will continue to read biographies about our revolutionary characters and work on writing biographies.
- We are also reading about the American Revolution in class.
- Melinda will come help us plant corn in the garden on Wednesday.
- On Friday we will be traveling to the Chilmark School for a research fair on the American Revolution. Students will be asked to gather information pertaining to their character and the revolution itself.
IMPORTANT DATES:
