A RESOLUTION urging the Legislative Research Commission to study the possibility of operating a child care center for the children of Legislative Research Commission employees.

WHEREAS, the Legislative Research Commission serves as the direct research and administrative arm of the Kentucky General Assembly, and in order to accomplish the needs of legislators and the legislative process, staff of the Legislative Research Commission are required to work extended hours to fulfill their duties; and

WHEREAS, crucial to the function of the General Assembly is the morale and work excellence of the staff of the Legislative Research Commission, and many staff members have young children that require care and nurturing; and

WHEREAS, it is important that Government provide leadership and set an example for the programs it promotes, and the care and education of children is a priority of the staff of the Legislative Research Commission who are parents of young children;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives urges the Legislative Research Commission to initiate a study on the possibility of operating a child care center for the young children of Legislative Research Commission employees, and further urges that the facility be located within the confines of the offices of the Legislative Research Commission, and that it be financially independent and without expense to the taxpayers of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Section 2. Upon completion of this study, the final report is to be submitted to the leadership of the Legislative Research Commission for consideration.

Section 3. Provisions of this Resolution to the contrary notwithstanding, the Legislative Research Commission shall have the authority to alternatively assign the issues identified herein to an interim joint committee or subcommittee thereof, and to designate a study completion date.
