Spotlighting Woodland Hills Republican Women Federated 11-21-2014

Woodland Hills Republican Women, Federated. Established 1950 and still going strong.

A few things to know about our WHRWF club, located in the far west end of the San Fernando Valley in the City of Los Angeles, County of Los Angeles. This information is telling you we are in deep Democrat country. Democrats run the City and County, so we face adversaries every day, in every newspaper, on every television station except Fox. Our membership topped out in 2014 at 162 regular, down from last year, but we believe with the Republican surge cross-country, we have a better product to sell. People are livid. Because of Emperor Obama’s disregard for the laws of this country and violation of his oath of office, we might even double our membership. Is that an unrealistic goal? Let’s see how we are going to do it:

Dues Adjustments: We are adjusting our dues from one-price–fits-all to amounts that will suit a wider range of women. One impetus was that we were losing quite a bit on money on our $32 a year taking into consideration the printing and distribution of a 12 page newsletter. We raised REGULAR MEMBERSHIP to $35. The other was to set a dues amount that would accommodate working women and students. We now are promoting an E-MEMBERSHIP level at $25 per year. This is full National/State/Club membership except all communications including the newsletter are sent electronically. Similarly, we are now offering a STUDENT MEMBERSHIP, but only $20 a year after confirmation of school enrollment. (Our premise is that all women students know how to find a ubiquitous $20 bill). Husband associates get a special rate of $10, (thank you Camarillo RWF for the idea).

We are also offering two other levels, SILVER SUPPORT and GOLD SUPPORT, $50 and $100 respectively, for those with the ability and desire to do so.

We have great expectations that this major dues adjustment will increase membership and help us in our outreach to other clusters of politically conservative women.

A New Scholarship. In 2014 under the outstanding leadership of PresidentVictoria Wilson we created a new scholarshipThe Thomas Paine Merit Scholarship, the first for our club, aimed at college aimed local high school seniors. The 2015theme is “What Does American Exceptionalism Mean to You?” First prize $2,000, second $1000. Not only does offering this scholarship give us entry to the local high schools, both boys and girls, but it has invigorated our membership. The women wanting to participate in the judging are more than we can accommodate. Chair Juanita Robbins gives little angel pins to donors, and thank you letters. The 2014 recipients were thrilled, and members gratified with the quality of essays and student winners. We can’t wait to hear 2015’s entries.

Increasing essential presence on internet: In the last two years we have kicked up our presence on the internet, thanks to savvy help from special family members: Check out our website This website was designed to be simple, accessible, and suitable for review on a smart phone. See the link to the Scholarship. We have gotten several members from the website since the update. Also we have a Page on Facebook Twitter. Please help and LIKE us on Facebook and we will reciprocate.

Other things we are proud of: Newsletter cost-cutting (President Victoria was also editor and WHRWF won CFRW So Div’s 1st Place Award for our size category); periodic evening meetings; outstanding speakers via the Southern Division Speaker’s Roster (Ann Grivich); quality vetted vendors, book and bake sales; time-tight meetings; an ongoing Caring for America project; NFRW Diamond Awardee; Leadership development (we try out new members on manageable jobs); and an annual Fashion Show that funds everything the dues don’t. All of this is done through the hard work, dedication and commitment of our members, the best. Thank you for the opportunity to tell at least a part of the WHRWF story.
