Accessing the F or S drive from your home PC
- To connect to the Divinity School file servers from outside of the Divinity School, you must establish a secure connection to the Divinity School network using the Cisco Anyconnect VPN software.
- To initially install the Cisco Anyconnect VPN software on your home computer, open a web browser and go to and select “School of Divinity” from the drop down list. You should screen a screen that looks like this:
- Login using your NetID and NetID password. If successful you will see this warning:
- Click “Continue” and if you are using Mozilla Firefox(As shown in this document) the Cisco Anyconnect installer will attempt to launch a Java applet on your machine to do the install:
*If you receive an error message instead, you probably do not have Java installed on your computer. At this point close Mozilla Firefox and either install Java from or try using Microsoft Internet Explorer.
- Click “Run” then wait while Cisco Anyconnect VPN is installed:
- Wait for the install to complete and you should have a screen like the one below letting you know that the software installed and established a secure VPN connection:
*When establishing the VPN connection, you may also receive the warning below. Just click OK. We are still working with the OIT support group to remove the warning:
- After you have established the VPN connection you can map a drive to the Divinity School Servers.
*After you have the Cisco Anyconnect VPN software installed on your computer, you do not need to use the portal.duke.edu webpage for future connections, you can run the Cisco Anyconnect VPN software from the Programs menu.
- From your computer's desktop, right-click on the "My Computer" icon, and select "Map Network Drive". The Map Network Drive window opens.
- In the "Drive" box, select S. Type \\dds-file-alpha.divinity.duke.edu\share in the "Folder" box.
- Place a checkmark in the “Connect using different credentials” box.
- Click Finish. A windows security window will appear asking for your credentials. Use your specific network login credentials, divinitynt\<username> and associated password.
- *replace <username> with the username you use to login to your office computer ex. “jmartin” without the quotes.
- To map the F: drive substitute \\dds-file-alpha.divinity.duke.edu\users\<username> in step 2 and continue with steps 3 and 4.
*replace <username> with the username you use to login to your office computer ex. “jmartin” without the quotes.
