Wildlife Rehabilitation Intern

Position Description:

Kids Saving the Rainforest (KSTR) is looking for a Wildlife Rehabilitation Intern to support our Veterinarian in daily rehab activities at the KSTR Wildlife Rescue Center, located just outside of Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. We are looking for an active, passionate individual to help us elevate our rehabilitation program of the wild animals in our care. The Rehab Intern must have the ability to work long days (12+ hours). This person must be extremely dedicated to animal conservation and willing to put the animals they’re helping first for the duration of their stay.

Reporting to and in partnership with the Veterinarian of KSTR, the Wildlife Rehabilitation Intern will have an opportunity to participate in the following activities:

●  Animal husbandry

●  Medicate rehab animals

●  Feed and clean rehab animals

●  Administer milk for orphans

●  Keep rehab cages clean and safe

●  Assist in exams, treatments, surgeries when needed

●  Manage rehab animal enrichment

●  Administrative clinic work

●  Open and close clinic daily

●  Manage cleanliness and order of both inside and outside of clinic

●  Evaluate and perfect quality of rehab animals’ diets

●  Complete thorough record keeping, and detail observations as needed

Qualifications/Experience:

All applicants must have experience in a veterinary setting, have excellent communication skills, a strong interest in animal welfare and conservation. Coursework in veterinary studies, primatology, zoology, environmental education, wildlife ecology or a related field is required. Experience traveling to a tropical country, living in remote conditions are preferred. Must complete required vaccinations and purchase international health insurance for your time at KSTR in Costa Rica.

*Spanish language skills are a plus.

Payment/Funding: This is a voluntary self-funded position. You will be responsible for all travel expenses/flights and immigration expenses. Room and Board will be $800 per month, for a total of $2400 for the 3 months. The KSTR volunteer facility is comfortable, with electricity and internet provided. We are located roughly 20 minutes from Quepos/Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica.
