Events and Community Intern

Children in Crisis are looking for an intern to join the Events and Community team. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, motivated pro-active individual hoping to get experience working in events and community fundraising.

The role will help you to develop fundraising skills and really boost your CV. We will help improve your employability with on-the-job training

Children in Crisis provides education protection, and better life opportunities for children who because of war, remoteness, and lack of government services, are missing out on quality schooling. At the heart of our work is the belief that education improves health and livelihood, unites communities and builds peace.

Job Description

ROLE Fundraising Events Volunteer

OVERSEEN BY Fundraising and Office Assistant

START DATE19th August

TIME PERIOD4 months minimum

HOURS PER WEEK15 hours pera week

Key Responsibilities

Source Raffle Prizes for future events

-Draft/edit letter to be sent to companies, hotels, etc from our records on Raisers Edge and spreadsheets to request donation of a prize to be used at future events

-Research further companies, hotels, activities to mail prize-ask letter to

-Mail merge letter to all contacts compiled from RE and spreadsheets

-Import all prize-ask contacts recorded on spreadsheets onto Raisers Edge

-If prize received, update on Raisers Edge and send thank you letter

-Record all responses both positive and negative on Excel Spreadsheet.

Challenge Events

-Researching possible places to advertise challenge events for free.

-Designing and sending a poster & covering letter to gyms, health clubs to encourage them to sign up to a challenge for Children in Crisis.

Schools and Community Fundraising

-Draft a letter to encourage schools to fundraise for Children in Crisis

-Draft a letter to encourage RAGs to fundraise for Children in Crisis

-Creating and maintaining database of RAG contacts

-Mail merge letter to all contacts to send to schools and RAG contacts

Assist with general fundraising tasks

-Post – Mailings etc

-Raisers Edge – batching/updating records etc

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Skills and Experience Needed

Essential

  • An enthusiasm for working in the charity sector, specifically in a fundraising role
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Organised with attention to detail
  • Excellent research skills (to include web based and over the phone)
  • The ability to use your own initiative and work within specified guidelines
  • Confidence in using Microsoft Windows packages
  • Confident and professional telephone manner
  • Positive attitude, particularly to learning new tasks and skills
  • Creative and lateral thinking
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • A desire to improve the quality of life of vulnerable and disadvantaged children around the world

Desirable

  • Experience of using Raisers Edge
  • Experience of mass mailing

What support will be given?

  • You will have regular progress and development meetings during your time with us
  • Travel (up to a zone 1-6 travel card) and lunch expenses will be provided
  • You will receive an induction into Children in Crisis and the Fundraising Department and any training required for the role, including in the use of Raisers Edge (dependent on length of internship)
  • During your time volunteering you will be part of the Fundraising team and will be able to draw on the team for guidance and advice, including CV and job hunting tips
