PRESENTATIONS AND POSTERS

Authors are requested to indicate a provisional title with their registration: this is needed to make the preliminary program.

Authors may express their preference concerning oral or poster presentation, however the scientific committee may invite the authors to change their choice. Time for oral presentations will be about 20 minutes.

Posters should be maximum 800x 1000 mm.

Submitted abstracts will be reviewed by experts and will be scheduled for oral or poster presentation during the congress, if the topic is relevant and the quality of the data justifies the scheduling.

Abstract presenters MUST be registered for the meeting.

ABSTRACTS PREPARATION

Abstracts should be submitted in English.

The content of the abstract should be clear, concise and revised by an experienced English speaker. It should be prepared as a Microsoft Word file (.doc or .docx), or as a rich text format file (.rtf).

The abstract should not exceed 3000 characters (spaces not included) and must be written according to the style defined below.

It includes: title, authors with presenter underlined, e-mail addresses, affiliations and addresses, body of the text

The authors of the submitted abstracts will be responsible for any Intellectual Property issues about the abstracts themselves.

The organizing committee has the legal rights to use the submitted abstracts for the purpose of the conference.

Please follow the instructions (page 6). We regret that we will have to send abstracts back to the authors for corrections if they have not been prepared according to the instructions.

Please indicate whether you intend to have a talk or a poster.

The main objective is to generally assess the resistance capacity of Norway spruce to bark beetle (both in spatial and temporal scales) in natural mixed forests dominated by Norway spruce and European beach. The assessment should serve as a basis for management strategies in forest reserves and surrounding commercial forest stands. The main output of the project is a management methodology (a manual) that will give procedures of forest protection in buffer zones of forest reserves and surrounding managed forest stands.

The key questions are as follows:

What is the role of disturbances by Ips typographus (L.) in the dynamics of natural temperate forests?

What factors influence the spatio-temporal spread of Ips typographus (IT) at the scale of individuals and spatial structures, and how do these factors interact?

How does the spatio-temporal spread of IT take place with respect to stand structure, habitat (forest site type) and disturbance history?

How does the gradation of IT influence the development of the spatial structure and species composition of forests?

What is the optimal intensity of protection steps with respect to population density of IT, forest stand features and amount of untreated fresh deadwood after disturbance?

The study is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic, Project No. NAZV QJ1230371 ‘Spatio-temporal pattern of bark beetle spreading in the natural temperate forest after disturbance’
