Welcome to Geometry! This syllabus is designed to explain this course and what your responsibilities are. Please

keep this syllabus along with course procedures in your notebook as a reference for the remainder of the course.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

COURSE OBJECTIVES

When students successfully complete Geometry / Honors, they will be able to:

demonstrate ability to represent concepts geometrically, analytically, numerically, and verbally [Rule of 4],

demonstrate qualities of a self-directed learner,

demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively within group problem solving situations,

communicate using the language of mathematics, both in an oral and written format,

determine the reasonableness of solutions,

select and use appropriate concepts and techniques from different areas of mathematics to find solutions,

complete projects that relate math to real world situations,

use technology, including laptops, scientific and graphing calculators to help solve problems, experiment, interpret

results, and verify conclusions,

INSTRUCTIONAL APPROACH

The instructional format will be a combination of Realize applications with lecture, READING, and cooperative learning activities. The student is encouraged to participate in pair/group activities to reinforce the concepts taught in this course. Laptops, Graph/Whiteboards will be used regularly as amethod for the instructor to gauge student progress. This form of feedback, in conjunction with verbal responses from students, results of students’ tests, quizzes, daily work, and written assessments (formal and informal, technical and non-technical), will be thefoundation for the instructor to determine how well the course objectives are being achieved.

REQUIRED SUPPLIES

1. Textbook. [Randall I., Charles, Kennedy, Dan, Hall, Basia]. Geometry Common CoreBoston, Massachusetts, / Pearson 2015

2. Writing Utensils. Pencil (preferably) or pen (blue or black), highlighter pens, dry-erase pens (preferably black, blue, or purple as

these can be seen from a distance on the graph/white boards).

3. Paper. I recommend that you take notes and complete homework on loose-leaf paper kept in a sturdy one-inch, three-ring binder.

4. Lenovo Laptop (charged)

5. Graphing Calculator. Graphing calculators will be used in this course. Ideally, the student should own one for use later in college.

A TI – Inspire graphical calculator can be provided for class.

GRADING POLICY

Your grade will be based upon the following: [Semester Grading Period]

Tests/Project/Quizzes 60% Student will be allowed to retest and have grades averaged

Homework/Classwok 40% Late homework is not accepted except for excused absences.
