NHS Executive Board Homeroom: F-11, Mrs. Bogacki - Advisor
General Membership Meeting: 16 March 2015
I. Welcome and Sign-in: Please keep in mind that members may only miss 2 meetings per year. Students who miss 3 or more meetings will not be eligible for an NHS tassel in June of their senior year.
II. Forms : (available at: wthsnhs.shutterfly.com)
A. Turn in your service forms ASAP, room F11.
B. Turn in your tutoring forms only if you have completed the full 5 hours. Otherwise, submit your forms during the first week of June, room F11.
C. Take the forms with you when you participate in the event to save yourself the trouble of trying to track down organizers for signatures.
III. Community Service Opportunities
A. NHS Shutterfly, wthsnhs.shutterfly.com, has been updated and there are MANY volunteer opportunities that need to be filled. Please take a look at the upcoming service opportunities listed there!
BA5K is quickly approaching. 10th and FINAL year…let’s help make it great!! You will be responsible for helping out at the event on Mother’s Day at Washington Lake Park. See Kyle Weidmann or Brian Bentley to sign up or sign up at wthsnhs.shutterfly.com.
Festival of Friends (4 CS hours for full morning of participation) is a carnival-like event held for mentally and physically challenged South Jersey residents. NHS members can buddy up with a special friend or participate in running a booth. FOF 2014 is Saturday, April 18, from 9 A.M. to 1 P. M. Please see one of the following members of the Interact Executive Board, Caitlin McGoldrick, Ally Fulginiti, Julia Griggs, Julian Savelski, Jill Black or Ms. Renzetti or Ms. Taylor to sign up or go to room D9 for more information.
Easter Classic Soccer Tournament: Please go to wthsnhs.shutterfly.com to sign-up for a location and time to help out. Contact information is also listed there.
Mon., June 8th (tentatively): “Cutting Cancer" hair donation event looking for donors to "Make the Cut"! Please help recruit donors!! Contact Mrs. Bogacki for more details.
Kennedy Hope & Healing 5K: Sun., June 7th at Washington Lake Park to benefit Kennedy Cancer Center’s Hope & Healing Fund. Volunteers needed and sign-up sheet is on wthsnhs.shutterfly.com.
IV. If you are interested in being a member of the NHS Executive Board for the upcoming school year, 2015-2016, please check the NHS page on the district website for the application. Email or deliver your application to F11 NO LATER THAN April 24th. Thank you!!
V. Membership Requirement reminders:
A. Members are required to tutor 5 hours. Always call the student you are tutoring within 24 hours of accepting the assignment to set up a meeting time and place. Please follow up with another call if you don’t immediately speak to the student or parent. The preferred location for after school tutoring is Cafeteria B—not the IMC. If Caf. B is unavailable, please see one of the advisors for a recommended meeting place.
B. PLEASE BE SURE YOU ARE CHECKING YOUR EMAIL DAILY! (The one that you signed up with on wthsnhs.shutterfly.com.)
C. Members are required to show evidence of a minimum of 10 hours of community service per year of membership (which may overlap with another organization such as Interact). You are permitted to accumulate hours from a variety of activities totaling the required number of hours. Senior forms are to be submitted by May 22nd in order to earn an NHS tassel for graduation. Junior members are encouraged to submit the forms before year’s end but may take the summer to complete junior hours. In this case, forms are due no later than September’s general membership meeting.
D. Tutoring: Middle school requests are coming in rapidly and I’m not sure why. NHS students can tutor in the IMC after school ends at 3pm at BHMS & OVMS. (CRMS has not requested anything yet, but may.) You must have your own transportation to and from the tutoring sessions. You may charge up to $25 (maximum) as you see fit. Requests will be filled on a first come-first serve basis to any announcements via Facebook, Remind101 and wthsnhs.shutterfly.com.
VI. Senior information – Service hours and tutoring forms needed to be turned in for any past
hours. Check due dates for these forms above. Senior graduation NHS Gold tassels will be
available soon. Cost will be $5. More information to follow next month.
