CourseDescription:

Introduction to the fundamental principles of animation that are the basis for traditional and computer

animation. Hand-drawn exercises are utilized to learn timing, motion and weights. Covers introduction to

the early history of animation.

CourseStudentLearningObjectives

1.LearnandpracticethePrinciplesofAnimation:timing,motion,weight,thusgainingthebasicskillsetneeded for thoseproceedinginto2-D and3-D ComputerAnimation.ProduceaReelof originalexercisesthat demonstratesthisknowledge.

2.Learntocriticallyanalyzeone’sown animationwork anddo activeproblemsolvingtoimprovework.

3.Learncoursespecifictechnology:Down shootingPencilTesttechnology, 2D and 3D animation software such as“Pencil”,AdobeFlashandMayasoftware.

5.ThisisanAnimationsurveyclass.Studentswilldevelopcriticalthinkingskillsof analyzingandcomparing animationcontext,styles,content,socialpolitical,economicandglobalfactorsthatinfluencedanimationover theyears.

•StudentwillbecomeawareofAnimationhistoricalandculturalcontextthroughscreenings,lectures,and individualresearch.

•Identifymilestones,studios,andkeyplayersinUSAnimationandwhy theyweresignificanttotheindustry.

•Becomeawareof crossdisciplinenatureofanimationand cultural influences.

6. Learn animationcareerpaths.Learnandpracticeprofessionalteamwork,professionalbehavior,and protocols.

70% Exercisesof principlesof animation.

20% WritinganddrawingAssignments,participationinlecturesandcriticalanalysisof animation screenings.

10% ClassAttendance,participation,andpromptness.
