Submitting an Assignment
Hi! In this presentation, we will discuss how to submit your assignments.
While the discussion boards are the equivalent of in class participation and are only used for online classes, the assignments are more traditional papers and work. In general, assignments must be submitted through Blackboard for both online and ground campuses.
Due dates and requirements for assignments will be posted in each course syllabus and in the classroom section as well. Most classes require assignments to be completed by 11:59 pm, Central Time, on Sunday of each week. Many instructors do have strict late policies, so you want to make sure you are staying on top of your work.
To find your course assignments, you will click on the “Classroom” section of the menu, then click on the appropriate unit folder. Most assignments are at the bottom of each unit’s material. Some classes require just one assignment per week, but some will have an assignment and a test or even two assignments. If you have questions about what assignments are due for a particular week, refer to the sequence of activities at the top of the weekly folder or to your syllabus.
Assignments generally will have an icon that looks like an open book. To complete the assignment, read the prompt carefully and complete the work. Then save it to your electronic storage device like your computer or flash drive. Make sure that you are saving it to a place that you’re going to remember so you can access it again.
Once you have completed and saved your assignment, go back to the classroom and click on the title of the assignment. Next, click “browse my computer” under the assignment submission area, then find the document you saved. Select the document by double clicking, or highlighting it and clicking open. You can see the document is now in the “attached files” area. If you selected an incorrect document, you can remove it by clicking “Do not attach.” Please do not write your essays in the “comments” section. When you are done, click “Submit.”
If you are unsure whether or not you have properly submitted an assignment or discussion board, you can click on the “my grades” in the course menu. If an item was properly submitted, you will see an exclamation point so that you know that it is there.
Keep in mind that you will often only be able to make one submission, but some assignments allow multiple submissions in case you make a mistake on the first one. For example, in the assignment I just submitted if I wanted to make a second revision I would click on the assignment again and click “start new” and start the whole process over. If you do accidentally submit the wrong work, please notify your instructor.
The next presentation will cover the structure of online exams and quizzes.
Thanks and enjoy the rest of the orientation!
