OVERALL JOB DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE
DrivePublic Relations and Corporate Communication strategies across all media channelsin order to protect and positively influence the image of the Company and position it as a good corporate citizen.
JOB SPECIFICATION
Minimum Qualifications /
  • Degree Mass Communication/Journalism or Marketing

Professional Registration /
  • Zambia Institute of Marketing

Minimum Experience /
  • 3 years corporate communications and PR work environment in telecoms or FMCG industry

Key Knowledge /
  • Excellent Command of written and oral English
  • Media landscape and consumption habits and good understanding of marketing environment for CSR implementation and sponsorships which emotionally connects with the communities.

Key Skills /
  • Investigative journalism and Business Acumen, Commercial awareness, Public speaking and editorial writing skills.
  • Social media skills
  • Ability to influence newsroom and editorial staff to get company positive news exposure
  • Internal communications expert and Exco goodwill ambassador to make management programs be known to employees
  • Stakeholder mapping, management and influencing skills.

KEY JOB OUTPUTS
KEY PERFORMANCE
AREA(KPA’s) / OBJECTIVES / KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI’s)
  1. Design and Manage overall PR and Corporate communications strategy
/ Develop and Implement PR and Corporate communications media strategy to influence a positive image positioning of the company / Implement the agreed PR and Corporate Communications strategy effectively within agreed timelines. Networking and influencing the media to publish and cover 90% of the stories in good standing across all media channels.
  1. Oversee the management of CSR and sponsorship and associated budget
/ To position the company as a good corporate citizen in the eyes of internal and external stakeholders / CSR projects implemented within approved deadlines. All sponsorship letters are responded to within 7 working days from receipt of request.
Show case all implemented projects to the public through a weekly TV program documentary.
Every Quarter run a newspaper supplement "Zamtel in the community" and anything with PR value to capture the story and pictorial glance of CSR projects
  1. Champion Media Liaison & Networking
/ Liaise with media to create good working relationships with the media / Arrange a media briefing once a quarter for management to interact with the media and share newsworthy company achievements and plans.Develop press releases as and when required. Press releases aligned to brand activity unless nature of communication is addressing an external issue
Ensure media coverage and presence to push Zamtel corporate brand
  1. Initiate Internal & External Communications Strategies
/ To improve internal communications in order to promote dialogue and unity of purpose needed to achieve Zamtel corporate objectives/goals.
To improve external relations with all key stake holders including media, customers and the government / Publish on-line internal magazine every two months with news and input from all departments and circulated to all Zamtel employees.Promotion and product launch FAQs and company wide briefing sessions to all Zamtel employees to increase awareness levels.
Under external communication, providing timely feedback to all external communications directed to the company or the MD’s office. Issue press statements and public notices to ensure the public is abreast with company developments. Ensure timely and accurate update of the website.
  1. Reporting
/ Ensure that weekly reporting is done showing sectional performance and media coverage summarised stories for both Zamtel and its competitors for management's information and decision making in Exco meetings / Weekly report handed before close of business every Monday
  1. Social media management
/ Ensure that all social media stories are positively building the image of the company.
All new social media trends and tracking tools to capture company related and industry stories / Daily updates to CMO Weekly compilation of social media update reports
  1. Institutional memory management
/ Create a data bank for all institutional memory stories and archives / Proof of organisational skills and creation of databank for institutional memory of all documentaries, events and media stories of significance to the life and history of Zamtel

NOTE: Management may at its discretion change the KPIs and weighting as per dictates of the job and these would be signed for.
