Community Engagement Co-ordinator

Leeds Beckett Students’ Union are expanding our work with the wider Leeds community. We have a commitment to developing our exciting volunteering programme and require a talented, motivated individual to fill an integral role to support this valued work that delivers great outcomes for the people of Leeds and positive, life-changing experiences for the students of Leeds Beckett University.

The successful applicant will primarily be driven to bring people together, identify options for volunteering projects and have a track record in delivering results. A background in education or the charitable sectors is preferred but not essential; evidence of inspiring people is. Experience of developing partnerships with third parties is integral to this role.

The Union is entering an exciting time, with continued resources to support community engagement and an ambitious team of new officers with a desire to influence the University and deliver much across all we do.

We are seeking an exceptional candidate, who is committed to delivering the very best results for our members and the Leeds community.

The Community Engagement Co-ordinator role is intended to be operational and a considerable proportion of time is expected to be out of the office and working with partners in the community or on location with volunteers at projects

This is a full time post (37 hours per week)

Salary: £17,476 - £20,745 (Grade 3)

On appointment staff will normally be placed on the first point of the substantive grade for the post. Appointment above this will only be on an exceptional basis and subject to approval in line with the Union’s Pay Policy.

Appointment to this position will be subject to a probationary period of up to 3 months.

RESPONSIBLE TO:Volunteering & Community Engagement Manager

JOB PURPOSE:

  • Coordinate and develop Leeds Beckett Students’ Union’s Community Partnership Scheme, including environmental community partners
  • Lead on the design and development of Community Engagement events and one off opportunities
  • Maintain positive relationships with relevant organisations and key contacts in the voluntary, community and statutory sector.
  • Coordinate and develop the One-Off Volunteering Programme, to include environmental volunteering opportunities

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Support and Development

  1. Provide knowledge and expertise to support the development of students involved in volunteering so that activity meets high quality standards
  2. Provide accessible information and support to one-offvolunteers through appropriate methodssuch as inductions,informal interviews, e-mail, telephone advice and group workshops.
  3. Provide support, training and recognition to one off volunteers
  4. Input into key SU and University events (e.g. Freshers Fairs, Student Volunteering Week and Student Changeover)
  5. Lead on the One-Off Volunteering Programme, recruiting and supporting volunteers for one-off opportunities, including environmental social action days.
  6. Manage the one off volunteer database, providing monthly monitoring reports to the Line Manager
  7. Manage the resources and budget for the one off opportunities, providing a budget monthly update to the Line Manager
  8. Work with the Volunteering and Community Engagement Manager andcommunity partners to develop the brokerage service, one off opportunities and potential student led projects briefs through sourcing innovative, inclusive and participatory student engagement opportunities.
  9. Work with community partners to promote their charities and opportunities through the website and campus events.
  10. Develop the Community Partner Recognition Scheme
  11. Develop the Community Rep Scheme
  12. Support the SU Awards through encouraging nominations from community partners and students
  13. Support the Volunteering & Community Engagement Manager to develop a Community Engagement Strategy in consultation with key stakeholders.
  14. Be actively engaged in local networks to keep informed of current trends and issues in the sector and identify potential partners and projects

Marketing and Promotion

  1. Manage the marketing strategy for the one off opportunities to potential volunteers
  2. Support the marketing and communication of the community partners
  3. Support the Volunteer Coordinator (Brokerage) to promote a diverse range of appropriate opportunities to recruit students into volunteering.
  4. Review and update information in union publications and web-pages linked to the Community Partner Scheme.
  5. Liaise with the Union’s Marketing and events team to ensure the one off activities and outputs are promoted appropriately to suitable audiences.

Administration

  1. Support the Volunteer Coordinators to maintain the Volunteer Database
  2. Maintain records of volunteering activity for monitoring purposes
  3. Evaluate the effectiveness of the community partners scheme and community engagement projects on student development and community impact
  4. Maintain the Community Partner Database

Finance and Resources

  1. Provide the Volunteering & Community Engagement Manager with up to date financial records
  2. Maintain an inventory and provide storage facilities for volunteering equipment and resources
  3. Manage the one off volunteering budget

Health and Safety

  1. Develop and implement risk assessments for community engagement events and one off projects
  2. Ensure that volunteering risk assessments are reviewed and updated as required
  3. Ensure all Community Partners have adequate health and safety procedures and necessary insurances in place
