Course Structure: This is a year-long elective course, which introduces students to the history and development of Photography. Students will learn Adobe Photoshop on new iMac computers! Training in the career of a digital artist and portfolio preparation will be emphasized. Students will receive UC/ CSU Fine Art credit for taking this course.
Photo Donation:
Photo donation (See itemized list below) is $15 per year and can be paid at the Finance Office. Students must pay this donation if they intend on taking any artwork home or if they plan on using the lab printer. Shutterfly books will be purchased individually by parents at the end of the year.
1 Composition Notebook ($1), Plastic ID Holder & Lanyard ($1), B & W Paper/Film ($5), Wood Block Print ($3), printer ink and photo paper ($5), individual 8" x 8" 20 pg. Shutterfly Book of personal Photographs ($25).
Grading:
The grading focus will be on your growth as an artist. Most projects will be given a letter grade based on specific rubrics that can be found on the Google Classroom class site. Online grades will also be available for up to date information on Aeries at abi.pylusd.org. Projects are considered late if they are turned in after the due date. Completed assignments turned in up tp a week after the due date will receive ½ credit. Students with Excused Absences must turn in work within a timely manner. ALL work not turned or turned in after a week will receive no credit.
Plagiarism/ Copyrights: This class has access to the Internet. Only original work will be accepted. Photo evidence will be required when taking images. Any plagiarized work will receive a zero as well as possible dismissal from the class.
Food: There is no food or drinks near the computers, but food may be eaten at the classroom tables. This privilege may be taken away at any time if students do not clean up after themselves or if gum is found under the tables.
Headphones & Cell Phones: The use of electronic devices can be used for music use only during photo class (with head phones). Students may also use class headsets if on the computers. Cell phones used inappropriately (texting, video games, social media) will be taken and sent up to the office.
Equipment & Supplies: Students will be issued art supplies and equipment to be used throughout the year. If possible, students will use their own devices (cell phones, ipads) to take photographs in the Beginning Photography course. If school supplies are not returned or are damaged maliciously, students will not be allowed to further use the equipment in the classroom for the remainder of the school year. If the items are accidentally damaged, the student may still need to make arrangements to pay for the amount owed.
Attendance and Tardies: We will follow the EDHS guidelines. It is your responsibility to ask about make-up work and complete it on your own time (for "excused" absences only). Because this is a studio class, nearly all work will be done in class. Use your time wisely!
Internet Access: Students must sign and follow the Internet guidelines set by the district. In addition, students are not allowed to use any games, chat rooms, email, or any social media sites that requires passwords and login names in the classroom. Students are not allowed to change the computers in any way or download anything without permission. Students are also not allowed to plug in their own personal devices into the wall outlets or computers. Students that violate these rules are responsible for all damages, will lose technology privileges, and may be removed from the class.
Photo Pass:
In order for students to leave the classroom, they must have their Photo Pass with them at all times. Passes MUST be left in the classroom in their designated areas. If a student wishes to leave but cannot find their pass, they will be unable to do so.
Google Classroom: Students will be using email and posting to our Google Classroom Photo site. Our Google classroom will feature all photo assignments, online tutorials and student streaming. Please make sure your child can access our Google classroom site.
