Video Editing: Non-Linear Production

VIDEO COMMERCIAL – THE SALEEN CAR

Assignment

You are a video editor at a private video production company. You have been assigned to work on the Saleen account. Footage of the new Saleen supercar has been shot by your team, and now you have to put it together to make an attractive commercial. You will select appropriate music, edit the footage, add appropriate titles if necessary, and export the video in a viewable format.

Raw video footage will be provided. You will not have to shoot footage yourself.

This is an individual assignment.

Your commercial should be 60 seconds long.

Keep in mind

Ø  When you are editing the footage, remember to have the beats of the video follow the rhythm of your music.

Project Stages

  1. Choose your target market. Keep in mind that this is a very expensive car, so creating something suitable for children probably won’t lead to many sales…
  2. Choose the music you want to feature in the video. You can use SAW32 to capture music from YouTube if you do not have music available. The music should be appropriate to your target market (older adults with lots of money won’t be impressed by rap or techno, for example, while younger adults will be less interested in slow classical music).
  3. Edit the video footage using Adobe Premiere (alternatively, you can try working in Final Cut on the Macintosh computers).
  4. Using your knowledge of sound editing, you can add sound effects and voiceovers if you think they will add to the message.
  5. Add titles to your video if necessary. You can modify the existing Saleen title in Photoshop and/or use the Titling feature in Premiere.
  6. Export the completed video ready for submission and evaluation.
