SSCS Governing Board Meeting Minutes

May 23, 2016

1 CALL TO ORDER

Parent Council President, Jolie Hauck, called the meeting to order at 6:01 pm.

2 PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

3 INTRODUCTIONS/WELCOME/ROLL CALL

Corporate Officers present: Cyndi Rachel, IEM Director of Education Support Services, Jolie Hauck, Parent Council president, Brenda Christensen, Parent Council secretary. The following four Governing Board members were present: Brittany Allred, Harold Davies, Nancy Olivares-Pinelo, and Jane Ternavsky.

4 HEARING OF THE PUBLIC

Members of the public may be heard on any item. A person addressing the Council will be limited to 3 minutes, unless the Site Administrator grants a longer period of time. Comments by members of the public on an item on the agenda will only be allowed during consideration of the item by the Council.

No one addressed the council at that time.

5 REPORTS

Laurie Goltara presented the LCAP annual update and plan for 2016-17 based on the survey results from parents, teachers, and stakeholders.

Cyndi Rachel presented a timeline of the Resource Center including permits and construction with an expected opening date prior to school starting in the fall. She went on to announced our 6 year WASC approval with a 2 day mid - term visit. Harold asked for copies of the visit.

Shandi Virnoche came in during the reports for a total of 5 governing board members in attendance.

6 ACTION ITEMS

1)  Approval of April 6, 2016 minutes

Shandi moved to approve April 6, 2016 minutes.

Brittany seconded the motion.

Roll call was taken; approval of April 6, 2016 minutes passed by a majority of 5 to none with 0 abstentions.

2) Transitional Kindergarten Policy Update

Jane moved to approve the Transitional kindergarten Policy Update.

Shandi seconded the motion.

Roll call was taken; approval of Transitional Kindergarten Policy Update passed by a majority of 5 to none with 0 abstentions.

3) Approval of intent to apply for 2016/2017 consolidated application for categorical funding

SSCS is applying for Title II funds. Application requires approval. Title II, Part A, Teacher and Principal Training and Recruiting is a federal categorical program contained in the Consolidated Application. The purpose of Title II is to increase the academic achievement of all students by helping schools and district (1) improve teacher and principal quality through professional development and other activities and (2) ensure all teachers are highly qualified.

Nancy moved to approve the intent to apply for 2016/2017 consolidated application for categorical funding.

Shandi seconded the motion.

Discussion: Harold suggested more training.

Roll call was taken; approval of the intent to apply for 2016/2017 consolidated application for categorical funding passed by a majority of 5 to none with 0 abstentions.

6 FUTURE MEETING AGENDA ITEMS

The Garage would like to have all obsolete materials approved for sale or donation before moving to the new Resource Center.

The next meeting was set for Thursday, June 30, 2016 @ 1:00 pm
