GENERAL FUNCTION

Grease Tap Inspector is responsible for inspecting all Grease Traps within the City of Slidell. These inspections are used to ensure that all businesses are in compliance with all City and State Plumbing Codes. This is done by opening all grease traps in order to perform a visual inspection and reviewing all grease trap related records from the customer. Position educates businesses of the requirements and proper maintenance of grease traps.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

This person works under the close supervision of a Senior Crew Chief.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Note – This list is intended only to illustrate the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements does not exclude them from the position.)

1.  Manages State and City required Grease Trap program.

2.  Inspects all businesses in the City on a scheduled basis.

3.  Inspects all grease traps to ensure that they are and installed and functioning properly.

4.  Send letters and make phone calls to customers informing them that there is a problem/issue with their grease trap. Notify customers of any none compliance issues.

5.  Records and files all inspections and none compliance issues.

6.  Works with businesses/customers in educating them of proper procedures for maintain grease traps.

7.  Works with Grease Trap haulers/companies to perform inspections and witness cleaning procedures.

8.  Issues Violation Notices/citations for customers/businesses found to be in non-compliance.

9.  Performs other related duties as assigned and/or required.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES:

1.  Reading wastewater lift stations.

2.  Assisting co-workers within the wastewater division as directed by Supervisor/s.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1.  High school diploma or G.E.D.

2.  Two years experience working with a Wastewater System.

KNOWLEDEGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

1.  Must maintain all State and City requirements if applicable.

2.  Applicable Federal, State (Louisiana State Plumbing Codes) local laws codes, regulations, operations, policies and procedures.

3.  Understanding of how grease traps function and the impact on the city’s wastewater system if not working properly.

4.  The City’s Wastewater Collection System.

5.  Must be able to use basic hand tools such as screwdrivers, hammers, wrenches, shovels, manhole hooks, weed eaters, lawn mowers, etc.

Ability to:

·  Read and understand blue prints and building plans.

·  Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

·  Maintain the City’s database and hard copy filing system.

·  Issue written citations, and make court appearances if necessary.

The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate equipment, objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, lift manhole covers, grease trap covers, or crawl; and talk or hear.

The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 129 pounds. The remover and replacement of steel covers is required in order to perform a visual inspection/s of grease traps and manholes.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moderate traffic areas. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or hot humid conditions, fumes or airborne toxic chemicals including sewer gases.

The noise level in the work environment is not usually a problem.
