Reading Comprehension Homework & Quiz

Lexile 570

Directions: Your child needs to read the following article out loud to you. Initial the bottom of the page each night after you are done. Return this homework at the end of the week. Your child will then take a comprehension test covering this article.

Corn grew in America long ago. Today we still grow corn. We grow even more corn than before. Corn grows from seeds. Workers use machines to help plant the seeds. The corn plants grow tall. Machines pick the corn.

Four different sorts of corn are dent corn, popcorn, sweet corn, and flour corn. Dent corn is used to feed farm animals. Sweet corn is used as food for people. So is popcorn. Sweet corn and popcorn are sent to stores.

Flour corn is sent to a mill to be ground into corn flour. Corn flour can be used all over the world. Corn flour can be used to make corn muffins. Corn flour can be used to make tortillas. But there’s more! Corn can be used to make cornflakes, corn chips, and corn oil. Or you can eat corn just as it is right off the cob.
