Sheffield Medics RUFC – Senior Coach Wanted
About us:

  • SMRUFC are currently second in Yorkshire 2and very hopeful of promotion to Yorkshire 1 next year. We are a self-run club, currently without a coach. We feel a coach would be beneficial for us to progress as a team and compete well in Yorkshire 1. We are also the National Medical Schools Competition winners, and look forward to a season where we combine retaining this trophy with advancing our league standings.
  • We field three competitive teams every Saturday. We currently have nearly 80 subs paying members. We train three times a week (On fitness, general training and then team run through) and play games on a Saturday.
  • We play fast, heads-up, attacking and expansive rugby. We have a relatively light mobile pack in comparison to most Yorkshire clubs and play to our strengths, systematically and rapidly changing the point of attack, utilising width to release arguably the leagues quickest back line. We are aggressive in defence and turn over a lot of ball to allow us to counter attack.
  • We have a squad full of talented players who have previously played high levels of rugby prior to coming to university. The average age in the 1stXV currently is around 22.

Overview of role:

  • We are looking for a head coach to train all three teams, with an emphasis on improving our first team. Three of our squad members are certified level 1 coaches to aid training sessions where needed.
  • The Coach would be in charge of all training on a Tuesday, and would be invited to contribute their views towards team selection.
  • Coaching mentality would have to be in sync with and reflect our fast play and approach to the game.
  • We would expect a coach to be present twice a week, once for general training on Tuesday evening and also game fixtures on a Saturday afternoon. We are open to discussion on precise level of commitment.
  • We would like you to have a minimum of qualification of coaching level 2, with good previous experience; both at a coaching and a playing level. You would also have to have a driving license or equally good method of transport to attend the required sessions. Registration with the RFU coach licensing scheme would be desirable but not essential
