JOB TITLE:Campaign Manager - Samaritans / Rail Partnership – 18-month fixed term contract

DEPARTMENT: External Affairs

LOCATION: Samaritans Central Office, Ewell

  1. POSITION IN ORGANISATION
  • Reports into: Head of Marketing & Brand
  • Liaises with all Central Office departments with particular engagement with the Strategic Programme Manager for Samaritans/Rail partnership; Head of Media; Design & Brand Manager; and Digital Communications Manager
  • Liaises with programme funders – Network Rail Programme Management team and Communications teams, along with other key stakeholders such as the rail industry Suicide Prevention Duty Holder Group (SPDHG) and key representatives from the Rail Delivery Group (RDG), Train Operating Companies, British Transport Police (BTP) and the Rail Safety Standards Board (RSSB) as required.
  1. MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

Manages the development and delivery of a fully integrated and targeted awareness raising campaign on the rail network for Samaritans, working with programme funders and key rail industry stakeholders within a high profile partnership structure.

  1. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Project management, including campaign development, managing the campaign budget and setting processes and measures for the tracking and evaluation of the campaign
  • Establish and build productive working relationships with key stakeholders, including colleagues, volunteers and the representatives ofthe rail industry Suicide Prevention Duty Holder Group, agreeing and setting KPIs for campaign impact with relevant colleagues
  • Key role in shaping the brief, creative, messaging, targeting and delivery of the campaign across all communications channels
  • Regular progress reporting to the Head of Marketing & Brand, Director of External Affairs, Policy & Campaigns, Strategic Programme Manager and rail industry steering groups, escalating issues and challenges as they occur
  • Set-up and manage a cross-charity project group to ensure the campaign is fully integrated across owned, earned and bought channels
  • Produce and manage a campaign plan with regular internal and external status reports - for the Communications Team, the Strategic Programme Manager and for the rail industry Suicide Prevention Duty Holder Group
  • Day-to-day management of creative agency and audience insight work
  • Establish a clear sign off process with stakeholders and ensure buy-in and sign off at appropriate stages of campaign development
  • Manage budget through monthly reporting of spend and ensure all purchase orders are raised and approved
  • Work with media suppliers to produce an effective media strategy and buying plan
  • Support other relevant rail industry campaign development work, through the provision of knowledge and expertise on campaigns in general and the ability to articulate Samaritans’ position
  • Track and evaluate our campaigns and take advantage of opportunities to promote them further
  • Act as a guardian for the Samaritans brand and champion it whenever and wherever possible.

Part 2: PERSON SPECIFICATION

  1. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Strong experience and understanding of the principals and practices of marketing communications
  • Experience of working with stakeholders within a high profile partnership structure and understanding of the complexities of this type of contract
  • Ability to communicate with and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders at all levels within an organisation and externally, managing a wide range of external stakeholder views and expectations around campaign development
  • Proven track record of managing the development and implementation of multi-channel campaigns
  • Strong experience of developing and implementing integrated multi-agency campaign communications plans
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and forecasting
  • Experience of market research (quantitative or qualitative) in relation to audience insight and concept testing
  • Solid understanding of media planning and buying
  • Understanding of social marketing and targeted behaviour change campaigns
  • Flawless project management, ability to set goals and key project milestones, managing appropriate activity to achieve them
  • A high level appreciation of the sensitivities around this particular type of campaign messaging

Desirable

  • Understanding of the rail industry would be beneficial but not essential
  1. QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate (ideally with a marketing focus) or equivalent relevant experience
  • CIM or other marketing qualification
  • IT literate and fully conversant with all basic Microsoft packages
