YOUNG ISRAEL OF HEWLETT SCHEDULE AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
parshat KEdoshim april 30, 2011
RABBI’S WEEKLY MESSAGE
Dear All,
I have received so many beautiful comments regarding this past Pesach yom tov in our shul. It was truly a remarkable yom tov.
I would like to thank Stephen, Ivan, and all those who helped make this yom tov so special.I pray that we carry this positive energy into making this year’s annual dinner a smashing success.
In this week’s Parsha the Torah teaches us, in chapter 19:2, “Speak to the entire assembly of the children of Israel, and say to them, you shall be holy for holy am I, Hashem your G-d.” This verse is extremely difficult to understand. How does Hashem expect us to be holy? Hashem is holy because He is G-d; we are merely human beings with passions and desires. How are we to compare ourselves to Him?
The commentaries explain to us, the definition of Kedusha, holiness, in the Torah is defined as “separate”. In the same way Hashem is the antitheses of physicality, Hashem desires that we too should separate ourselves from physicality. Not all physicality, just “EMPTY PHYSICALITY”. We are taught to embrace “SPIRITUAL PHYSICALITY”. Hashem gave us a beautiful world and asked us to go ahead and enjoy it. We must infuse the spiritual side into our physical world. This is the way people can really enjoy our world.
Let us use these days of Sefirat Haomer, as we count up to the holy day of Shavuot, to infuse our lives with Kedusha.
I am very excited to hear David Kazlow lain this week’s Parsha, Parshat Kedoshim. We are all so very proud of him as we are with all of our Bar-Mitzvah boys.
A great Shabbos to all!
