Minutes of Meeting at SSMS School Advisory Council – February 7, 2018

Lisa Gray, Co-chairman,called the meeting to order at 8:06 am.

The Decemberminutes were read and approved with corrections

Imaging needs to be changed to Imagining

PTA, no sleep over, changed to Escape room

Ms. McMahonmade a motion to accept the minutes with corrections and Ms.Kupkaseconded it

Principal’s Report: Mr. Cecil

Single point of entry has been implemented with positive results

Campus monitor does not get here until 8:20, have to go to the cafeteria before that

FSA camps are starting, it is “crunch time”

Trying to target students

7:30 am – 8:30 am Tuesday and Thursday-math

Monday and Wednesday- Reading/Language Arts

Saturday-language arts, reading, civics, writing and math

Thank you all for all that you do

Question-“Are we still on point to receive money for the Single Point of Entry for our school?

Yes, it is still in the works, we are waiting for decisions. Construction should start in the summer

Motion made that the GIZMOS money approved will be used for Brainpop renewal also. It is the same amount of money

Ms. Kupka seconded the motion, vote was taken and all yes.

Motion also made for FSA camp attendance reward/motivation money of no more than $500.00 if PTA cannot fund it

Ms. White seconded it, a vote was taken and all yes.

Language Arts/ Hirsch

  • ELA had a successful year, chosen to be a COLLECTIONS pilot. Helps students dig deeper and analyze text. It is material that goes along with the textbook.
  • Support FSA camps and they are working on having additional support in the mornings
  • Working on crunch time with writing also

Reading/Pierre

  • BSA data chat-desegregating standards
  • Chatting with students
  • Using Iready books-focuses on reading and writing
  • FAIR testing coming up
  • Contacting parents
  • Working with FSA camps

Social Studies/Richards

  • Gave a chart, off-track-less than 32, proficient (almost)-32-36, on-track-37
  • Having student data chats with students also
  • “needs work”, “mastery” Benchmark by benchmark
  • Hosting Saturday academies
  • CANVAS has practice on benchmarks

SPBP/Discipline Committee/Gillepie

  • Working on school-wide positive behavior plan for 2018-2019

BTU Report/Desabatino

  • Contract was approved
  • Legislative sessions are starting
  • Movements such as disbanding unions
  • County is spending too much money on things not on people
  • Union is working on making teacher evaluations more equitable

SAF

  • New quarter-updating the eBinder paperwork, paperwork gets approved or disapproved quarter by quarter
  • Changes-4 points in each academic, need to pass at least 2 academics, “T for testing used if a student passes a test for credit but did not take the class. Does not count for GPA
  • “FACE” on browardschools website, for parents, information on parenting and courses for parents to take at no cost to enrich personal growth
  • Newsletter supposed to be coming out.

Title I/Mr. D

  • New quarter-updating the eBinder paperwork, paperwork gets approved or disapproved quarter by quarter

PTA

  • Escape Room at Red Button was a success, sold out
  • Selling roses for Valentines Day
  • Feb. 22, March 22, Gator Growl
  • Gator Walk, May 18

  • Nature Quest with Ms. Peterson
  • Cypress Communities
  • Field trip for science, chaperoning

  • Orchid-April 7th and 8th

Mathnasium/Sal

  • Incorporating FSA in curriculum
  • Complimentary session 2:30 -3:30 Saturday, FSA style questions
  • Would like to host math night at SSMS

Student Government

  • Pennies for Pasta
  • Dodgeball event
