<Addressee>

Dear <Addressee>:

Fayette County has two important initiatives in progress to inform flood risk and mitigate hazards. The Fayette County Draft Hazard Mitigation Plan draft will be available for public review prior to submission to Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for approval this Spring. Additionally, the FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) panels and new Flood Insurance Study (FIS) for Fayette County will become Effective on July 18, 2017.

Please join us for a joint meeting that will cover both a review of the Draft Hazard Mitigation Plan and aCommunity Coordination and Outreach (CCO) meeting to prepare for the upcoming Effective FIRM. For your convenience, a morning and evening meeting will be held in theFayette County Public Service Building, 22East Main Street, Uniontown, PA 15401, at the following times. You need only attend one session.

or

6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Your municipality’s Chief Executive Officer, Emergency Management Coordinator, Floodplain Administrator, and any additional points of contact gathered in the Hazard Mitigation Plan update have been invited to this meeting via a mailed letter. Please forward this message as appropriate to others in your community.

The meetings will include a presentation from our Consultant on the Draft Hazard Mitigation Plan followed by a presentation regarding flood risk by FEMA. FEMA’s presentation will cover the NFIP, resiliency resources, and the two activities that each community must undertake during the upcoming months to ensure continued participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP):

  • Your community is responsible to reach out to those citizens affected by the changes on the FIRM and inform them of the identified risk and potential flood insurance implications.
  • Your community must adopt a new or amended floodplain ordinance that meets the NFIP minimum requirements or face possible suspension from the NFIP.

If you are unable to attend any of the upcoming meetings and still wish to participate in the planning process, please notify the consultant Urban Planner, Madeleine Fincham of Michael Baker International, at (412)269-6093 or , so that she may follow-up with the information you need.
