SUBJECT: How to create a test directory

INFORMATION:

1)From a root prompt use the command: df to check available space on your system, provide this information to your response line rep.

2)Use the command: cd /home (to change to your home directory).

3)Now enter the following command:

a)mkdir test (This will create a new directory called test).

4)Bring up your menu system. Go into System Management, Menu Maintenance, and add a selection to your main menu- title it TEST MENU. The program to execute is: AMENU test ; TSET. Be sure to have an M in the process option.

5)If you have available space, copy your live data files into the test directory, using the following commands when no one is on the system so you get a clean copy:

a)cd /home/data

b)cp * /home/test

6)If you are limited on space, you will need to at least copy in the table file (SS000F01) and the menu file (SS000F30). Other files may be needed based upon what you are wanting to test. After you have copied in the files, change the menu name in test to include the word TEST, so you will know where you are when in the menus.

7)You can establish your regular security for the new selection to let whomever you want use it.

CONCLUSION: This process can be very useful to you for testing some new programs or for trying a new procedure that you don't want to have access to your live files.

Before proceeding with any steps, if you have some confusion, contact your Response Line Representative.
