EXECUTIVE/BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES

June 13, 2017

Attendees:

Linda Murphy – President

Jaime Esquivel - Vice President

Jim Wilbourn – Treasurer

I. Call to Order: Business Meeting –meeting was called to order at 7:01pm.

II. Reading and Approval of the Minutes: Minutes from Maywere readand no exceptions were taken. A motion to accept the minutes from Maywas made, seconded, and accepted.

III. Financial Report: The Treasurer read the financial report. Most of the Annual BBQ expenses have been paid with the resulting balance being $161,008.82. A motion was made to accept the report, it was seconded, and passed.

IV. Unfinished Business:

  1. IT Support for MVFD Systems (Bo): The proposal from Todd Witzelsteiner was reviewed and discussed. A motion was made to accept the proposal for services, it was seconded and passed unanimously. (CLOSED ITEM)
  1. Annual BBQ (Jaime): Total income from the even was $31,811.00, expenses to date have totaled $7,000.00. There are some expenses outstanding. The Vice President is planning a post BBQ meeting and thank you event. (OPEN ITEM)
  1. Fall Harvest Fund Raiser (Jamie): The vision for this event is to keep the community engaged with the Fire Department. Ideas for activities include a hayride, food trucks, pumpkin patch, children’s games. The date has yet to be decided, around October time frame. (OPEN ITEM)

V. New Business from Board Members:

  1. Monthly report of incident calls and FF staffing: There were 5 calls for brush fires, 1 for traffic control, 1 house fire.
  1. Amazon Smile (Bo): The Mico Volunteer Fire Department is now registered with Amazon Smile. Patrons of Amazon just type in smile.amazon.com to access or just search “amazon smile” and click on it to enter through the smile zone. The Fire Department will receive .05% of any purchase made on amazon smile.
  1. MCESD #1 Visit: Two members of the ESD visited the Fire Station to look at locations to house the Emergency Services people (AMR) during their shifts. The wear and tear on the main building as well as disruptions to both AMR schedules and the activities of the Department are the reasons to look for a separate, more private location to house them during their shifts. The alternatives include adding on to the ESD barn for living quarters, adding on to the main building, or putting a temporary trailer behind the EMS barn. These alternatives will be discussed at the MCESD #1 Board meeting on June 14.
  1. Planning for Growth: The President recommended that the board start doing some strategic planning for dealing with the growth and increased population in the area. A long-term plan for both facilities and for management needs to be discussed. She will take the lead on this.

Executive Meetings start at 7:00pm, Business Meetings at 7:30pm. Emergency Executive Board Meetings will be posted 48 hours in advance of the Meeting. The Executive Board of the Mico VFD reserves the right to adjourn into executive session at any time during the course of the Meeting as authorized under the Texas Open Meetings Act, Government Code 551.074 (Personnel Matters) and any other provision under Texas law that permits a closed executive session. In an emergency where there is an urgent public necessity the agenda for such meeting may be posted two (2) hours prior to convening (Section 555.045, Open Meetings Act).
