Athlete of the Year

Mission: To honor Auburn Riverside athlete(s) for their athletic accomplishments while attending school here.

  • Outstanding Performer - One male and one female that has achieved the highest level of success within a sport at Auburn Riverside (athlete may play more than one sport but has achieved high success in at least one sport).To include, but not limited to, state champion athlete, league MVP, etc. This athlete is often one that will play collegiately at the Division I level.
  • All Around Performer - One male and one female athlete that has represented Riverside athletics to its full potential. This athlete is one that competes in more than one sport, ideally 3 each year while at Riverside, anddemonstrates the spirit of the sport through leadership, loyalty, and Riverside enthusiasm.

Process:Head coaches of each sport have the opportunity to nominate an athlete(s) from their sport thatare in good standing within their sport and by WIAA academic standards. To be nominated an athlete must have completed the following:

  • A full season within the sport of the nominating coach
  • No athletic code violations
  • No academic ineligibility periods within the season
  • Represent Auburn Riverside in a respectful demeanor
  • Have character worthy of recognition

Selection will occur at a pre-determined meeting by coaching staff. Coaches need to be prepared to give history and background on each nominated athlete. Voting will determine the award recipients. The process will go as follows:

  • Head Coach nominates athlete(s) using the athletic department nomination form
  • Head Coach or representative gives a 3 minute description of athlete and their athletic history at a pre-determined coaches meeting
  • All Head Coaches have a vote for each of the awards. Award recipient will be determined by majority vote.

A student/athlete who wins both but receives only one award as athlete of the year.
