AWARD TERMS

Scholarship Award: £20,748 p.a. (approximately) for three years full time study (£14,553 in stipend, £2,000 in London weighting, and fees at £4,195).

Applicable course: PhD (Department of History)

Duration: Three years full time (no part-time applications will be considered at the time of application, or after the commencement of full-time study).

Topic: The successful applicant will work on the World Jewish Relief Central British Fund Archives, under the joint supervision of Dr. Simone Gigliotti and Prof. Dan Stone in the Department of History

Selection Criteria: The candidate will have completed an MA (first class) in a relevant field (History, Refugee Studies, Holocaust Studies, etc.) and be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in the history of migration to the UK in the context of World War II.

Eligibility: This scholarship is restricted to UK/EU applicants.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to visit the website of the Holocaust Research Centre to learn about our history, vision, academic staff and research strengths. The Holocaust Research Institute is housed within the Department of History at Royal Holloway which boasts an active and stimulating research culture for postgraduate students.

Applicants are also strongly advised to visit the website of the World Jewish Relief and its UK archive catalogue at the London Metropolitan Archives to assist in developing a dissertation focus (see Section 6 of the application form).

12: Next steps

Now you should:

·  Pass a copy of the completed application form, along with copies of Degree Transcripts (evidence of your marks and degree results) to each of the referees you have identified. The referees should send completed references directly to the University contact person (as provided in Question 4) and, at the same time

·  Pass the completed application form to the University contact person in the institution at which you propose to study (as given in Question 4), along with Degree Transcripts (evidence of your marks and degree results as complete as available).

·  Both referees are asked to return their references to the relevant University contact by Friday 17 March 2017, 5.00pm (London GMT). This is the deadline by which the University must have received your application form, references and supporting documents.

·  Complete a separate application via Royal Holloway Direct for admission.

Please note that it is the applicant's responsibility to monitor the progress of their application and check that all parts are completed on time. The History Department will not request references on your behalf from your referees, and your application will not be considered if both references are not received by the specified deadline.
